US Border agents have unlimited rights to search anything they wish.

The can ask for your passwoords to access your phone records, texts, email, history of websites, and social media accounts. This has happened to many people before. They do not have to have a reason, just a suspicion.

Delete all communication with escorts, website history, texts, call logs, search history, and log out of all social media accounts.

This happened to me once, where I was told to leave my phone in the car. The phone had a lock on it, so they did not access it.

There were some sites I visited that would have most likely prevented me from entering, as well as communication with prostitutes.

That is crazy.... I'm sorry I understand that some people may give off suspicious vibes but to check everybodys cell phone and laptop ? That is extreme. The best thing to do would just have it out of visible view if u don't want it searched. OR just let them search it without giving u probable cause which is a violation of your rights as a human being...


I remember the police stopped my brother and sister one day when they were walking the dog, They weren't doing anything except crossing the street, next thing you know sirens come on and they are interrogating my brother because the policeman didn't like the way he "looked" smh.

I don't think that is right at all. Most people travel to the states for work or for leisure but now we are going to have to worry about deleting messages and calls off our phones because the CBSA wants to check cellphones? *sigh* I'm truly baffled right now.. This thread caught me off guard. Looks like I wont be going to the states anytime soon seeing as none of my PRIVATE information/ messages are no longer PRIVATE. lol.

This isn't just the U.S.A. when you enter most countries you are well advised to have deleted "dirty photographs," links to escort websites, links to TERB etc. . . from your computer.

CBSA may want to look at electronic devices but if you're a Canadian citizen they can't deny your reentry to Canada.

That is true of any country including the U.S.A,. if you are an U.S. National they can't refuse you entry, they may arrest you, but they can't keep you out.

I believe they can deny you entry because you have a track record of what THEY consider to be criminal activity, and that they don't want YOU to possibly engage in such in their country.

In brief if you are a U.S. National - and they know about it you may be put on a law enforcement watch list. If you are not, you may be barred from entry as being undesirable.

The situation is rather ironic - some courts have gotten into a twist over the President's Executive Order, but the courts have consistently upheld that the bottom line is the decision of the USCBP agent even having a valid visa is not a guarantee of entry, the only exception to this (although you may be put into detention until you can appear before a judge) is if you are a Permanent Resident Alien (Green Card Holder).

I would suggest you keep your contact list on an email. Then you can access it after the fact. But delete the contact information for that acct.

Personally I have an SO. She was would never feel the need to investigate my phone. But I'm a careful bunny so I don't keep a list that's accessible.

Absolutely. I have a separate email acct for my nefarious activity. I have to sign in every time. As long as you have various other contacts still on your phone they wouldn't care.

Ten year ban on entering the US. More specifically they can deny you entry if they have reason to believe you have engaged in prostitution in the previous ten years.

Important to remember that border agents in any country can deny you entry for basically any reason. Don't give them one.
