Those with nut allergies beware! According to a news release, "thanks to a new McFlurry flavor, the entire McDonald's Canada menu could come into contact with peanuts, tree nuts or other allergens. The company reports in a news release that the new Skor McFlurry will contain non-packaged peanuts or tree nuts. The Skor McFlurry was released Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Canadian McDonald's."

Guess that means less stops at Mickey D's for a few folks....

Now they are saying that children should be introduced to small amounts of peanut butter mixed into yogurt when they are but a few months old.

Calculated move by McDonald's which basically says "we're sick of bending over backward for the 0.0001% of folks that have peanut allergies, so just don't eat here anymore, we don't need all of your $10/year (worldwide you people generate $100/year for our company), as it doesn't help our bottom line. Please fuck off and die if you accidentally eat peanuts"

Not sure I disagree with them.

I'm no scientist, but growing up I knew ZERO people who had nut allergies.

But some reason over the past maybe 20 years, it's a clusterfuck of every other kid having some kind of epipen issue. Can't eat this, can't touch that, what the fuck?

In that case THEY have no idea what they are talking about. Something like an allergy (peanuts) cannot be prevented/reduced or vaccinated against. Building up one's resistance to bacteria/viruses (the immune system) via a vaccine is completely different to what they are proposing. In fact, the more someone is exposed to something (non-bacterial) then the more likely they are to develop an allergy.

THEY are wrong.

Apart from underestimating the actual figure by a factor of 10,000... okay.

Seems like bad PR to do this just for one item that doesn't even have peanuts. Now they're obliged to state that each item on the menu may contain traces of an ingredient that one of its ingredients may contain traces of. I've never even seen anybody eat a Skor bar in my life.

My guess is that there’s more to this story. McDonalds has been trying to push a healthier menu for years, and not being able to include nuts and nut-based products in their veggie burgers, and to provide hummus with nuts, etc. probably held them back. There are more and more Canadians from various ethnic backgrounds that are looking for alternative meatless products that they’ll now be able to better service. They wouldn’t make this change just for Skor.

You might think so but Aardvark is right in this case:

https://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/we...ure-to-peanuts-to-prevent-allergies/?referer=

Note this doesn't say expose children WITH AN ALLERGY to peanuts, but rather that early and regular exposure reduces the odds of DEVELOPING the allergy in the first place.

The article also suggests that a child at high risk of having the allergy should be exposed to nuts for the first time while under supervision of a doctor in case it goes south.

A whole bunch of them East of Toronto yet none in Toronto. Crazy.

There are some in Mississauga and Brampton as well. I went there yesterday after work and got a few Egg McMuffins.
They are doing a trial run, so it makes sense to limit the number of locations until they work out the kinks.
