With the numbers Jagr is accumulating, it made me think:

Which current NHL'ers, IF THEIR CAREERS WERE TO END TODAY, have had great enough careers that they'd make the HOF? Not talking about guys like Stamkos, Karlsson, Toews etc. who are on their way, but have not done it long enough yet.

IM(as always)HO:

Absolute mortal locks:
Jagr
Iginla

Regular mortal locks:
Chara
Thornton

It would be hard to keep them out:
Crosby
Ovie
Luongo

Worth consideration:
Elias
Hossa

Borderline:
Datsyuk
Marleau

Just missed (and too old to do much more): Doan

That's my list of guys who'd currently qualify. There are lots of guys well on their way but need to post good numbers for several more years.

It'd be hard to keep Duncan Keith out.

3 Cups, 2 Olympic Golds, 2 Norris Trophies, a Con Smythe trophy and over 800 regular season games.

Generally regarded as the best all around d-man in the league since Lidstrom retired

Don't think he's played long enough yet.

I'd include him with guys like Doughty and Weber, Toews, Kane, Eric Staal and others. On their way but need a few more seasons.

Also considered, Vinny LeC, Doan, Zetterberg, Nash, Sedins.

You have Crosby virtually certain, but Toews has to do it for several more years?

Crosby has been much more dominant over the years than Toews. He has been the declared the best player in the league for a good portion of his career. As much as Toews is respected (by me as well) I don't recall him being held in that same esteem.

Crosby: GP-696, Pts.-923
Toews: GP-634, Pts.-554

How many centres with 550 career pts. have made the HOF in the last 50 years.

Not even close. I rest my case.

Remember, we are talking about if their career ended today.

Kaarlson is automatic, Nash not a chance. Did Dave andreychuk ever get in?
