No French's Ketchup, No Loblaws

The Loblaws chain has stopped carrying French's ketchup.
Won't bother me to avoid No Frills, Superstore...
I want Canadian Ketchup.
They say President's Choice ketchup is a Canadian product.
Last I heard we still had a Prime Minister. LOL

If you think French's is Canadian, you'd better check. The tomatoes* and the workers who fill the ketchup bottles in Leamington may be Canadian, but the money you pay goes to an American company.

For all we know, the PC™ ketchup is packed in the same plant by the same workers. You could check the label for Made in Canada if you're so concerned about workers, but for sure Weston is a Canadian company.

Like you, many folks erroneously believe the President making the Choice must be a reference to the White House, but in fact it was a boasting brand invented by Loblaw's President Dave Nichol back in the early '80s, and the logo is meant to be his handwriting. That is why Walmart re-branded the PC™ lines they bought as Sam's Choice, since there was no connection to be made to 1600 Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the info. So the choice is PC=US workers but profits stay in Canada, or French's=Canadian workers but profits go to the US. As I said, the the tomatoes could come from anywhere, even if they're local during our short season.

Just make sure Loblaw's knows how you feel. Even though the Lounge is open, I doubt they follow TERB. But can't you imagine a PC™ Ketchup manager saying, "French's should be ready to talk deal about a month after we close them out".

French's ketchup is bottled in the US . The paste that is made for that ketchup is made in Leamington Ont with Canadian tomatoes which is then shipped over to the USA . Canadian jobs for workers and Canadian farmers have a place to sell their tomatoes . The plant in Leamington is also expanding so more Canadian jobs are being made .

French's also uses mustard seed that is grown by Canadian farmers out west for their mustard . That company which owns French's is doing good for Canadian workers. Canadian jobs , Canadian tomatoes ----- profits go to the US .

Don't really care where the profits go to .

Dofasco in Hamilton used to be a Canadian company but some rich guy over seas bought the company . It's a great company that employs thousands of workers ( Canadian Jobs ) . Profits don't stay in Canada but that's where the good paying jobs are which is a good thing .

If you want to get French's ketchup you can order it on-line from Walmart and have it delivered to your home , nearest postal office or Walmart . The last 2 the shipping is free .

The Canadian catsup caper has concluded.
After a Liberal MPP threatened to lead a boycott against Loblaws for delisting Ontario-made French’s ketchup, the grocery giant relented.
“We’ve heard our Loblaws customers. We will re-stock French’s ketchup and hope that the enthusiasm we are seeing in the media and on social media translates into sales of the product,” said Kevin Groh, the company’s vice-president of corporate affairs and communication.

It's about more than ketchup.

It's about the fact that Canadians and Ontarians in particular are sick and tired of seeing factories and Mills shut down and hard working people thrown out of work for no reason other than pure unadulterated greed. How many plants have been shut down figuring that they will simply service the Canadian market from US plants , or worse, China. It seems like an every day occurance. Hard to fight an industry like US steel for example when they closed Stelco in Hamilton and just serviced all of Stelco's contracts out of the US.

Now you have heinz who for as long as anyone can remember was making Ketchup in Lemington. Then some bean counter figures they will save 2 cents a bottle if they close down the Canadian operation and just supply the Canadian market from US plants and we will just keep buying Heinz out of brand loyalty.

It wa disgusting.

So when Canadians found there was a Canadian alternative, it caught on like wildfire.

Support local.

Makes me proud.
