Thanks to Gibby decision making yesterday I won some money by betting against them. Even Gibby admitted after the game that the plan was backfired. We lost the game late because:
1) Gibby was greedy. He was hoping that Price would end up winning the game and goes up 2 wins in two starts against the Yankees. Backfired.
2) Gibby was thinking ahead by saving his 6,7th innings guys for today and tomorrow. His two SP's for the rest of the series are not as reliable as Price. Backfired.

Let's hope that Gibby will live and learn from his managing skills during the game and not giving too much respect toward his superstar players. Don't want to look way too far into October Classic but I have a bad feeling that Gibby might cost Jays fans a WS title.:eyebrows:

Maybe if you paid attention you'd see that cola already pinch hit for Goins.

OMFG people. One loss and the knives are out. He went with his shutdown 8th inning guy....in the eighth. It was all in all the right choices made. It just didn't work out. That's baseball.

Revere had 184 hits last year. 184. I don't care if they are squibs, soft liners, infield hits etc. Few get that many. And all move baserunners.

Not every player on a team, as mentioned before will be a 30/30 guy, hit. 300 and play great D.

They won 11 in a row, several close games in there. Start bitching when they go 4 and 9 like the Yankees did.
Exactly... one hundred percent correct!

But I understand, it is Toronto, after all.

On the plus side... it is still only August. Nothing is ever won in August. The team is good... and they're in a race! It's what we've wanted... waited for... and envied from other teams for far too long. And we are now here!

On the negative side... it was a bad beat. You would actually rather lose 10-0, then have to go through the possible mental smackdown of a game you had in hand until the wire. Not once... but twice. What's worse is the effect it could have on the Yankees. They were down and out. I can only imagine what another shutout or a walk-off would have done to their psyche. It would have been so good to find out!

But... it didn't happen. And since everyone wanted to see how the Jays would react to a loss, why not make that loss a colossal failure, right? If they can get through this with flying colours, it should be easy sailing the rest of the way. Hopefully, this will be a turning point for all the right reasons.

Otherwise... let's all sit back and enjoy the ride. It's gong to be a while. Barf bags are optional. :thumb:

Revere is a good percentage singles hitter and that is all we needed at that point. Heck a fly ball to the outfield would have done it, and the infield was drawn in. This is a perfect example of the fact that good hitters fail more often than they succeed. Tip your hat to Miller on that one..but yeah I was disappointed because I thought Revere would slap one somewhere.
This is the area that AA is still working on and highlighted our only real, existing short coming. If we had another good defensive outfielder, a right handed bat would have been used to face Miller in that situation. And that is also when losing Valencia becomes a reality. But, it will likely only happen a handful of times to become a talking point. I believe that in a couple of weeks, that position (defensive outfielder/right handed bat) and situation will be taken over by Pompey.

It's not like there's a ton of devastating left hand closers out there to face, right? As good a hitter as Revere is, he was definitely not in a position to succeed in that specific at-bat.

Your right, I wasn't paying attention as I didn't catch the whole game. I was busy getting laid and just turned on the game :)
Now I know yer a rookie. Never hear of long slow cock worshiping blowjobs and doggy-style? They were invented so men can watch the game.

Get your priorities on order man!

Forget about this series,if the Jays are not careful they could get swept by...the Phillies in Philadelphia early next week! Looks like the O is pressing a bit. Joebat struck out with one out and two men on base, for example. Should have short memory and come back to win the final game tomorrow. Jays need positive momentum before getting out of town next week.

No team is as good as an 11 game streak. Baseball is a sport where success means playing .600 ball. Or even .550 ball. The odds just came back to nail us.

I'm not concerned about the Phil series. I AM concerned about the 6-game road trip to LAA and Texas. We have an excellent home record and a shitty away record.

Ok, I am not jumping off the bandwagon..but I got on with caution. I have been critical of Gibbons and worried that he was a minus...and his bungling in the 8th inning last night makes the point.

I was pointing out during the streak that Tulo is not a lead off hitter and Revere is. They have similar lifetime batting averages......but both are seeing American league pitchers they aren't used to. Gibbons is blind if he does not make the change.

Revere has contributed a bit the last two nites...but has looked bad a couple other times. I bet if he was treated like a lead off hitter and not dumped into the nine spot...he will hit .300 and cause some action. A little better than Reyes on offence, and much better on defence. I also bet that if Tulo was hitting fifth (or maybe sixth)..he will also regain offensive form. But Gibbons doesn't seem to see all that.

Finally...one of you guys who are good at this can remind us of an Angel centrefielder named Peter Bourgous (sp)...made some spectacular plays, could run like a deer, but eventually faded out because you need offense from that position and some power. Pillar should be batting ninth, should have been odd man out instead of Valencia...and that will cost us.

But hurray for the pitching....they weren't going to beat Tanaka today, but Marc O battled and 2 good hitters hit one out on him....

Lets hope we get it back, and play .600 or better the rest of the way.

Hutch one-hits Yankees through 5 so far.
And scorers reversed that flyball error on Beltran and awarded Tulo a double

I never lost faith in Hutch.

I have a hunch that we have Serena Williams to thank for it. Several Jays players including Hutch were at Rogers Cup Thursday night. You could see him studying Serena's serve, something clicked, he said to himself "Dayum why didn't I think of that". The more nonchalant Serena's serve is the more overpowering it becomes. Hutch learned from the best and cut down his arm motion considerably.

Serena's big taut ass deserves our kisses.

Ex Jay prospect, Kendall Graveman hutches, going 3.1 and giving up 6 earned in 18-2 O's rout over A's.

Are you implying that Graveman got buried today?

To the extent that getting Kendalled might enter the language as a new participle.

But in actual fact, the guy who relieved him got Kendalled far, far, far worse than Kendall did.

Two games coming up against Philly. These are games that they need to take. Hopefully they keep the pedal to the metal and regain their hitting shoes.

As Zaun pointed out, taking one out of three isn't bad as they have taken four of six in the span of a week against the Yankees.

gcostanza - Days ago (I'm too lazy to look through past posts for the exact one) I was getting pissed off at the Umpires having it in for Jays, and calling way too many balls as strikes.
You said if you watch enough games, the bias goes against others too, and it all balances out.

Well, I do apologize. Yesterday, I caught what I felt was a couple Yankees getting jipped on calls. Today, I didn't see nearly as much of the game because I was working, but saw even more examples then yesterday.
I saw the pitch tracker have a couple pitches right on the box, and still the respective Jay at bat was getting them called as balls. One example was Bautista on his HR at bat. Two pitches were easy strikes and the ump called them balls. This was huge, because it gave Jose a 2-1 count, when in fairness, I thought he was struck out standing. In the end, he cranked a 2 run HR.

So indeed... I am seeing you're point lol
Thanks Kathleen.

The umpires are professionals, they've been doing their job for a long time.
They're the best in the business (most of them) and they take pride in their work
(most of them), much like the players.

The above being said, they are human, they make mistakes. They want to get the calls right.
A good day at work for the umpiring crew is when no one notices them doing their job.

Do they miss/blow calls?
Absolutely, and when that happens, no one feels worse than the umpire who made that decision.

Jim Joyce comes to mind for a lot of people when blown calls are being discussed.
He was devastated, in tears after the game that he'd cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game.
