Not my idea of a fun place. Just be extra cautious whom you want to Shexxh and Camel over there.

And it didn't take long for the ignorance to start, you can wear whatever you want within limits (no short shorts) unless you're visiting a mosque. This along with Bahrain ate the most liberal places of the entire region. Alcohol is available, the sexes can mix, the biggest problem is the size of one's bank account as it is very expensive.
Not ignorance. Guys like Aardy and nottyboi love to hold forth on things they know only enough about to show they know very little.

Make sure that you tell this mall in Dubai that they are "ignorant" and "only know enough to show they know very little." Please note the sign stating what I previously posted.

I've always found it wise to do my best not to draw the attention of police particularly in countries were the legal system from our prospective leaves much to be desired.

Make sure that you inform the Government of Duhai, that they likewise "only know enough to show they know very little" http://www.dubai.ae/en/Lists/Articles/DispForm.aspx?ID=133&category=Visitors see the bottom of the fifth paragraph.

Ok, Counsellor let's look at your original post:

Which among other things means no knees showing and no shoulders showing (at least in most malls etc. . .).

"Certain attractions, such as mosques or religious sites, usually have stricter dress codes, requiring both men and women to cover up bare shoulders, arms and legs, and women to wear headscarves."

Now let's look at the end of para 5 you cite to affirm your knowledge (that I contend is limited to the internet)

"Certain attractions, such as mosques or religious sites, usually have stricter dress codes, requiring both men and women to cover up bare shoulders, arms and legs, and women to wear headscarves."

Although shopping is likely the most practiced religion in Dubai, I don't think Shopping Malls (to which you originally referred to) are considered a "religious site"

As said, I've always found it wise to do my best not to draw the attention of police particularly in countries were the legal system from our prospective leaves much to be desired.

It troubles me to to see advice given that amounts to don't worry about ignoring the law, don't worry about drawing attention to yourself, yes the law is fairly widely flouted, then as most people are aware comes the day when they decide to enforce the law and if "but other people did it" doesn't hold any weight under the Common Law, it holds even less weight there.

I agree with that premise but AFAIK not covering your shoulders in a shopping mall is not illegal.

My premise is that you chime in on things with such authority when you don't have any first hand knowledge. Like many American's who don't venture outside their country, their state, their county etc, you parrot stereotypical misunderstandings of the real world outside the USA. And when someone who knows, with first hand experience, chimes in and corrects you... you dig in deeper.

When you visit Dubai, come back and tell us what you observed.

The alcohol, the bars, the tens of thousands of hot, bare shouldered provocative Russian prostitutes who make a great living there.

Do you really want to go there ? Not attracting any attention is NOT going to happen . You are going to stand out like a sore thumb with all of the ink that you have on you .

The ink says look at me , look at me .

at least you can still get your Timmies in Dubai it is a sensation there kicking Starbucks sorry ass
Starbucks is fairly good, not great. Not a fan of Timmies. I rate it below McD's coffee. When I first tasted Tims I felt like it was a bait and switch. At least McD's you get a second shot. Free. In Toronto!

Ottawa base.
I've never been but done some research, you don't NEED to cover your shoulders , but out of decency and respect for a Muslim culture and country you should do it. Hotels and beaches seem to not follow those rules thought.
Especially with a full sleeve tattooed you will get a lot of stare.
