Jays today announced that the Rogers Centre roof will be closed for the entirety of the 2015 season.
They figure it gives them the best chance to win games and also keeps players from getting sun burns.

Guess there's going to be no Camden Yards or Wrigley Field vibe at the stadium this year.
Bleak concrete industrial warehouse vibe all year even in the middle of summer.

To me if this is the way you have to win you might as well not win at all.
What's baseball if you can't get a baseball atmosphere and why bother trying to develop indoor grass if the roof is going to be always closed all the time.

Toronto Blue Jays relievers Colt Hynes and Todd Redmond have made the opening day 25-man roster, leaving the team to make a final decision on one of Liam Hendriks or Ryan Goins, Sportsnet’s Barry Davis reports.

Redmond and Hynes have both enjoyed strong springs. Redmond recorded a 1.80 ERA with five strikeouts and two walks over 10 innings pitched, while Hynes was even more impressive, punching out nine batters with just one walk and over 10.2 scoreless innings.

Outstanding numbers aside, Hynes made it since the club needed another lefty arm in relief.

With Hynes and Redmond locked into bullpen spots, that brings the Blue Jays’ reliever count up to seven — Brett Cecil, Aaron Loup, Marco Estrada, Miguel Castro and Roberto Osuna being the others.

The decision to take either Hendriks or Goins, as Davis reported, creates an interesting dilemma for Blue Jays decision-makers, as the team has hinted it would be going with an eight-man bullpen.

This spring, Hendriks has put up a 3.52 ERA with nine strikeouts and three walks over 7.2 innings pitched.

By comparison, the normally poor-hitting Goins has managed an .870 OPS this spring that includes five doubles, one triple and one home run for six RBI. He brings the added bonus of being one of the better defensive infielders in the system.

April Fool,s?
not funny..and i like a good april fools joke. A couple years ago when the roof wasn't opened until mid may, a believable rumour was that they could not get the damn thing open. With this cold spring, it may be a while again before we see outdoor baseball

Oops, stupid me.
Well, they seem to leave the thing closed 80% of the time the way it is, mostly for frivolous reasons; so, going all in to 100% didn't seem like a big stretch.

Apparently the Jays get deluged with complaints from consumers every time they leave the roof open, even if the weather is perfect; so, it's getting to the point where they've given up and are loath to open the thing anymore.
Or at least so it seems.

I won't pay to go to a Jays game unless I know the roof is going to be open.

I envy you! Pre Blue Jay days, use to make an annual trip to see the Expos. Always enjoyed it.
Please give us a report on your return. Will be watching but that isn't the same as being there.

I'm usually a very positive person, so it pains me to say this, but with this current starting rotation, and without Stroman, the Jays will finish in last place.

You can quote me on it at end of August

Better still do a post around Aug 31 quoting yourself and see what you're reading of the tea leaves is like.
To me it is almost impossible to finish below Tampa. I have a feeling that team is going to be pretty bad and I think the Jays can compete for 1st in East or a wild card if they stay healthy.

BTW, I just watched tonight's game on TV from Montreal and was struck by how huge Brett Cecil has become. He looks like David Wells now.
Must have eaten a lot of ice cream sandwiches in the off season.

Great, so maybe we'll finish 1 game ahead of Tampa, but still in 4th place.

Thats much better

The Montreal games were pretty-fantastic.

I'm more and more glad we signed Martin every time I hear him talk, (or hear what other teammates are saying)....

People may be negative about the youth- the only one I kinda worry about is Sanchez... (Knock on wood- don't want to jinx anything).

I'm very-positive for the season ahead and can't wait till Monday!

I think Tampa can be quite bad this year.
These aren't the Tampa Bay Rays who can clobber you over the head with David Price, James Shields and Jeremy Hellickson in the rotation anymore.
Those 3 guys have been replaced with Larry, Moe, and Curly.
Plus they've always been a very poor hitting team even with Evan Longoria taking up a spot in the batting order.

There is a chance that the Yankees take a bit of a dive too especially if Tanaka strains his elbow ligament again.

At the end of the day you just have to sit back and see what the guys can do.
I think it'll be a fun season to watch the team this year though.

Saw both games and really enjoyed them. The team looked like a team. Now if we can only teach Gibby to walk; not hobble. :D

I was there for both games again this year. What a treat Saturday to see the Jays win 9-1. Excellent to see so many so many people (myself included) in our EXPOS gear. And once again this year the largest crowd of the season to see the Jays play will be in Montreal at 50,376, over 96K again for two games.

Time to get moving on this. Rogers bought the Jays, perhaps Bell (TSN) will buy the Expos. Build a new stadium (the Big O is tired) and have Montreal in the AL East. It will make for exciting times.
