Declaring the TTC an essential service was disastrously stupid. It locks in the current exorbitant contact without rolling back any of the cost. No future mayor can fix it. Nobody can lock out the TTC workers until they sign a less costly deal. Nobody can remove the union. They are locked in.
For your information for everyday TTC goes on strike...the economy loses 50 million dollar a day! Queen park under McGuinty hated the TTC strike and Queen Park Under McGunity happily passes legislation very quickly to make TTC essential service when the city make a requested TTC to be an essential services. And stop blaming everything on ROB FORD. The Ontario liberal could had deny the city request on TTC being essential service. IF you want place the blame on that declaration of essential .. Blame both parties the city and Queen Park( mcGuinty liberal) Fuji your hatred of rob ford turn your brain to mush!! Since you keep posting nonsense maybe you ..Fuji go smoke some crack it may clear up your brain fog and may even increases your IQ.

I don't believe that. That number is TTC union bullshit. But in any case, even if you believe it, that number represents only around 2% of the TTC budget. Since Rob Ford locked in exorbitant employee costs FAR higher than 2% we would really be better off paying the $50 million for a couple of days every few years--it'd be cheaper. And Queen's Park legislates the TTC back to work pretty quick anyway. In the end it would be better for the city to have a stick to beat the union up with, and try and roll back some of the exorbitant cost.

As of now Rob Ford's actions have completely tied council's hands, there is literally nothing that council / Tory can do to bring down the exorbitant employment costs, because after handing out the juiciest contract ever, Ford locked it in by making it an essential service. It's untouchable now.

Disastrously stupid to you. Brilliant maneuver to the citizens of Toronto especially to public passengers who count on TTC every day.

It locks in the current exorbitant contact without rolling back any of the cost.
Wrong........under the leadership of Rob Ford TTC management went against the union and contracted out the bus cleaning lowering the hourly rate from $26 to $18.

No future mayor can fix it.
Yes no future mayor, without Rob Ford style fiscal management skill, can fix it.

Nobody can lock out the TTC workers until they sign a less costly deal.
No need for lock-out. Under the leadership of Rob Ford TTC management went against the union and contracted out the bus cleaning lowering the hourly rate from $26 to $18.

Nobody can remove the union.
No need to. Under the leadership of Rob Ford TTC management went against the union and contracted out the bus cleaning lowering the hourly rate from $26 to $18. Without facing Constitution Court challenges for removing the union.

They are locked in.
No. No union rate is sacred. Under the leadership of Rob Ford TTC management went against the union and contracted out the bus cleaning lowering the hourly rate from $26 to $18.

Small potatoes, under the leadership of Rob Ford the TTC union got paid off enormously at huge expense to the taxpayer. Real big money. Then he locked in the exorbitant contact forever.

But keep on blithering away about bus cleaning while the house burns down around you.

And gave everyone else JOBS FOR LIFE... you know, when ticket agents are no longer required, THEY WILL STILL HAVE JOBS until they retire... you know, when conductors become irrelevant THEY WILL STILL HAVE JOBS until they retire... way to use the taxpayer's dollar efficiently and appropriately.

They are transferred to other jobs in the corporation.

Small staffing maneuver.

Yes, they will have to INVENT jobs for them.
Very good use of taxpayer's dollars.

"Oh, you work for the TTC? what do you do?"
"I inspect ceiling tiles."

"Oh, you work for the TTC? what do you do?"
"I am a keyboard sanitization technician."

I know you lack common sense, and need everything spoon-fed to you... but no.
You seem to understand the basic principals of Google when you're trying to make a point, so try transferring that skill, as difficult as it may be for you.

Because thanks to Rob Ford they can never, ever be fired and never, ever have their pay or benefits reduced. So the bus cleaning cost is an ADDITIONAL COST not previously paid since the former bus cleaners are STILL THERE being paid their full pay rate.

You must be a union guy.

Please show us the link(s) TTC did not employ human resource maneuvers (1) natural attrition and (2) early retirement package to handle this contract-out situations.
