I had no respect for him as a player. He was more of a brawler than a player and he ushered in an era with the broadstreet bullies of replacing talent with goons. I understand he was a great coach although I still never saw the cup come to Toronto when he was coach.A tremendous loss. A fine coach & a winner. Will never forget his hit on Bobby Orr in 1969.
Your lack of respect has tainted your memory.he ushered in an era with the broadstreet bullies of replacing talent with goons.
I was speaking of his playing career, not coaching.Quinn had nothing to do with "ushering in" goonery. It was well established by the time he started coaching.
I understood that.I was speaking of his playing career, not coaching.
Pat Quinn quit smoking cigars in 2002.That's sad, one of the best coaches the Laughs ever had. Couldn't give up the cigar habit.
Even so there were lots of tough guys with limited skills before that. Early 60's there was Lou Fontinato, Reggie Fleming, Howie Young.I was speaking of his playing career, not coaching.
+1.He coached Toronto to the playoffs in 6 of the 7 years he was here 1998-99 to 2005-06. The Leafs have only made the Playoffs once since.
Let's not forget about Bill Ezinicky in there...http://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...enteel-world-of-golf/article4633659/?page=allEven so there were lots of tough guys with limited skills before that. Early 60's there was Lou Fontinato, Reggie Fleming, Howie Young.
Again, Pat Quinn was no innovator in that regard.
