I usually put down the story for a while and do something else. That way when I do come back it's with a refreshed mind. Another good tip is to join a writers group a few of them are on Meet Up. They can review your work and give you ideas and suggestions to take your story to the next level.

Smoke a joint....
Mescaline unleashes the imagination as well...
Go spend a day volunteering in a homeless shelter or soup kitchen...deepens ones perspective and makes you thankful for what ya got.

The big name writers all say the same thing..........be disciiplined. Write at the same time daily, for the same time. If it is not starting the way you want, start in the middle of the next sentence! In other words, just write. Writers block only has the power that you give it.
My bail out on writing always used to be reading books on writing! Learnt a lot.........but satisfaction came when I wrote, not when I read about writing! My two cents....or should that expression be My Nickel, now that the pennies are gone ;)

It really depends on what your writing is all about. Are you experiencing writer's block on a work of creative fiction? Reading or watching something inspirational might help. Is your writer's block stopping you from writing an analysis or opinion piece? The get into an angry internet fight with some random jackass. That'll get the creative juices flowing all right! Or are you stumped for some boring copy for a brochure/website/manual for some dull-as-shit company? In that case, booze and drugs may well be the best answer. As in "I get to have a drink/toke/whatever ONLY once I've finished this shit."

And a great way to get out of writer's block no matter the subject is to start polishing and editing. If you can't come up with anything new, then make what you have better. Seriously. Go over what you've already written and make it fucking shine. Make it shine some more. Edit the everloving fuck out of that shit! If you can't make it better, you are lying or dead inside. (if you gots nothing from your current project, go back and edit something you wrote in the past.)

I can hear it calling, I can hear the whisper in your words...I know you will be back to the MPA...you can't fight it, you can't get the MPA out of your blood...don't run from it man...you just need to find the right ones again to blow your mind, body and soul to a billion pieces...and you'll be writing poetry with every breath you exhale ...without them you become just average, just like others...and no matter how well you write it will lack the passion, the desire, the edge to blow people away...it's calling you...the inspiration whispers..

I usually try to go for a new experience or something out of the ordinary to get my juices flowing again. It could be anything that brings me an adrenaline rush: zip lining, go-carting, indoor lazer tag, indoor skydiving (the one in Montreal is great!), etc. It seems to do the trick for me.

The things that worked the best:

I've been learning the 5 minute writing system so you can have a book finished in 40 hours or close to finish.

You write hard for 5 minutes then stop do something else, Pretty everything above will some how ease writers block.

Shift your mind-set by reading things in a different style than you are used to. Play around with different voices (in the writing sense). Read different styles until you connect with one and then see where that goes.

Will definitely give it a try. What is your book about?
