According to Dr. Zane Cohen, the plan of action with this type of cancer is to do chemo first. I'm sure they guy knows what he's talking about.

We can only hope he'll read over this thread before making his final decisions.

I think it is because they don't want to do surgery twice and while the tumor is still growing they can't be sure they got it all.

There are different schools in treatment of cancers. In Canada, Chemo and radiation is used more than (some places) in the US, where surgery is the preferred path. One is no better than the other, just different schools.

I had a carcinoma, that would have been treated with radiation here, but was removed by surgery in the US.

I want Rob Ford defeated at the ballot box because his ideas have been rejected by the voters. In a democracy, we are strongest when our political enemies are alive and well and outspoken but still unable to win an election. It isn't much of a democratic race when the other guy dies.

Ford's already broken enough rules that he complains about, drinking on the job, hiring family, skipping work and lying that he should have fired himself long ago.

Personally, the cancer is shitty. We'd be better served by Frod staying in the election, getting soundly beaten and then fading away in obscurity. The nepotism of the Doug version of the show just allows the Ford circus to continue. I have no issues with disrespecting a man who lied to the city about his crack use and other issues. He doesn't deserve my respect. I don't wish him dead from cancer, but I'm not going to start talking about him as if I either care about him or respect him. Getting cancer isn't a get out of lying/crack use/nepotism free card.


The CBC and Star both published quotes saying that this type of cancer typically isn't considered 'cured' until its surgically removed. Ford should be worried that this isn't the first course of action, that they are going with chemo first.

Canter said treatment for large, aggressive sarcomas can be "quite intensive." He said treatment can be complicated if there's evidence a tumour has spread at the time of diagnosis. Ford's doctors said Wednesday that in addition to the tumour in his abdomen, they also found a "small nodule" in his buttock, behind his left hip, which a biopsy showed is part of the same tumour. That second tumour is about two centimetres in size.

"If a tumour can be removed completely, obviously that's associated with the best outcome," said Canter.

Dr. Nancy Baxter, the chief of general surgery at St. Michael's Hospital, told CBC News Wednesday that the second tumour "is quite concerning."

"When there is evidence of spread, we tend to have less of an opportunity to treat patients for cure," said Canter. "If they have good response, then they become surgical candidates, but that's not a foregone conclusion."
