Finally ended up trying Burger Priest on Queensway and was pleasantly surprised. The palce was buzzing, very loud with all the talking +cool music and people coming in and out. The burgers are unique and tasty. As to the best burger palce, will need to try it couple more times to confirm but for sure on top of my list. Looks like these guys have many locations now.
A college friend of my son's started Burger Priest, i had the opportunity to get in on the ground floor with financing. Turned it down, the burger market is viscous, fads come and go, just like Lick's Burgers, and many others. All is good for the short term, then Burger Nun comes along to shrink market share even further. Tried Burger Priest, not bad, pop was warm and no ice in the place. Fries over cooked. i still give top spot to 5 Guys.

God Bless................Andy

When I was a newcomer to Toronto, people kept telling me that. I had to try it.

They say everyone has different tastes, and that's got to be true because in the 3 times I've gone (had to make sure I just didn't get a bad batch), it's been nowhere near what I would call "good". Same issue I had with Licks.

Five guys are quite good, especially for a chain restaurant.

I like Golden Star at Yonge and Steeles very much. Their burgers are a meal.

Best burgers I've had lately are my own! No joke. And I'm not even a great cook. Just lean ground beef, mixed in with chopped red onions (finely diced pieces and bigger pieces the size of a nickel), bread crumbs, salt, pepper, Club House steak spice, olive oil, a bit of hot sauce, a mix of Bullseye BBQ sauce and Chinese Hoisine(sp?) sauce. Mix that crap all together and make big patties out of them so when they are cooked the meat still sticks out from the bun from all sides. Nothing is worse than burgers smaller than the bun! lol. When BBQing the burger, also grill some thinly sliced onions and mushrooms in a mini-grilling pan beside the burgers. Near the end, toast some fresh kaiser buns in the rack above with a big melted slice of real cheese (not that pre-sliced cheap crap that comes in those plastic sleeves). Build the burger(s) and add ketchup or mustard. I usually make two burgers so I do one of each.

But for burger places, I actually like the burgers Hoops Sports Bars have. They also give a good helping of fries too. Too bad they are gone, but a long time ago, The Fire Pit and Full Bite burgers were a block from each other and were the best burgers I had. There is still a Fire Pit in Mississauga (near Heartland Centre) and it's still good. Awesome fries too.

5 Guys is ok. Overpriced. Average burgers, but depending on the toppings you get might lead to a wet sloppy burger. It does help that their fries are great and you get an insane amount of them. Free pop refills is a bonus too.

North of GTA
I've been living out of the GTA for a while so I do not know if it is even still around but I always thought that the best burger hands down in Toronto is the state of the art burger at Toby's

If that place is gone then my pick would be Five Guys, if only they would give you a few more fries. LOL

Go to Cumbraes and get the steak burgers. Salt and pepper. That's it. Better than all the other places.

Redrock on Rexdale Blvd. is good. Their "homeburger" is delicious and very filling. I also like their steak sandwich.

In n Out are the best chain burgers at that price point of a couple of bucks.

The best I've had in Toronto were at Jump.

I love burgers ... So many places mentioned that I have not visited and in some cases never even heard of, but it is my mission to eventually try them all(assuming the business is still going).

My opinion ...

Best(in no order);
Burger's Priest
Five Guys
Hero Burgers
> my own homemade ... saw someone post that, have to agree. At home you get to make it anyway you want with whatever you want. tough to beat that.

Good;
Johnny's ... on Vic Park(at Sheppard), north of 401
Apache ... years ago I forget where it is.
> most bars have good burgers, but I find are pricey

Has their place;
McDonald's
Burger King
Wendy's ... for me I only go to Wendy's for spicy chicken burger. Their beef burgers always have a taste I do not like.

Thanks. Never heard of them. Just google mapped it. Dang, I'm in Mississauga. But if I'm ever near one I'll check it out!

Never tried Burger's Priest but heard good things about it! They opened one in Port Credit I never knew about which is the closest one to me. I'll check it out.

Some people have mentioned Jonny's. Wow, that place is still around. I haven't been there in 10 years, but used to work in the area so we'd go there maybe once a month. Decent burgers, but one problem they had was sometimes you'd get a cold/normal bun. And that place sure had a Soup Nazi feel to it. Those old guys working there sure made you move along. Place was so small and the picnic tables were disgusting with bird crap everywhere. lol

As for fast food chains, nothing wrong with them! Can't beat coupon deals and $1-2 value menus! Sometimes it's 1 am, starving, only have $10 on you, but it can still get you a drink and 4 value sandwiches! lol

As for homemade burgers, I'm not a great cook but there is something fun about about making burgers. Yeah, it's sloppy and gooey, but very relaxing. I'll buy a bunch of ingredients and make 20-30 of them and shove them in the freezer.

they used to have one on yonge, between finch and sheppard, used really like it too.
I'm pretty sure there was also a Fire Pit in Mississauga at Dundas/Hurontario (just west of that intersection). Adding the one you mentioned (never knew it was there) and the really old one at Dixie/Dundas 20 years ago, who knew it was an actual small scale chain! I wonder if there were more.

WRONG. Serving a burger medium rare (corresponds to an internal temperature of 63 deg) is illegal in Ontario.

The problem with ground beef is that contaminants (e.g. E.Coli) which may have been present on the surface of the meat (or on the cutting implements) are distributed throughout the meat, and must be killed by thorough cooking (minimum internal temperature of 71 deg C) in order to be safe. Some steaks are fine when cooked less, if the interior of the meat has never been exposed. But some steaks have been "pierced" for tenderness, and thus pose a danger if undercooked.

From the regulations:
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_900562_e.htm#BK13
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/source/regs/english/2004/elaws_src_regs_r04074_e.htm

Other sections of the regulations cover poultry, etc.
I have no problem with ordering a burger medium rare if the restaurant grinds their own beef fresh daily. Not that I buy ground beef from a supermarket (I grind my own beef at home) but if I did there's not a chance I would cook it medium rare. You say it's illegal to serve a medium rare burger in Ontario. How do you explain all the restaurants that serve steak tartare? Are all of them breaking the law?

I've had many medium rare burgers from fresh ground beef and never had a problem.
