Bell increase my price without telling me and I have to call every six months to remind them that I can get better elsewhere. Then they lower the price to match. You have to be angry on the phone and tell them that if they do this again you will switch without warning. They then get all apologetic and give you two months free. You find a better price than Bell, let them know and they will match the price.

Do you know any good deals for internet and phone service? BTW- all landline internet and phone comes from Bell, all others buy from Bell and resell,

I feel your pain brother as Rogers is no better. With the new laws having cell contracts cap out at 2 years, both Rogers and Bell playing this game where if you want to upgrade your phone to one of the newer premium phones like the LG G3 or the Samsung S5, they will only sell you the phone at "their" subsidized cost if you lock into a plan that is starting at $85/month!!

As for landlines and internet, I've used Primus Canada in the past and found their service to be better than Bell and decent service.

Good luck,

R

Did have the same problem with Primus. Every single year they do increase their rates as well, when you combine the phone and the internet. The problem is a stipulation in the contract that although they lock you in for a two or three year deal, it is stated that they have the right to increase their rates if their "costs" go up. But off course they do it all the same regardless of their costs. The problem is that this government just does not bring in a more stringent legislation although they constantly keep on "harping" about it. Excuse the pun.

And yet, you keep rewarding them with your business.

When I'm treated like crap, I go elsewhere. I don't even care if I pay more. The only way a company will learn they can't treat people like shit is when they lose money. If you stay with them, you're almost letting them get away with it.

I find I need to get really abrasive with them every 6 months like you do and threaten to pull my business, and then they do become all apologetic and offer goodies. They think they can get away with it unless they are "called" on it. You have to be vigilant with them. They are bastards.

You guys are kidding.... Did you ever notice that between the two there are no conflicting "special offers". They really could care less about your business, where are you going to go, from the frying pan to the fire. Yes if you want to spend the time bitching and complaining you'll get something, most of the time people don't. And any government does not go head to head with them.
CRTC has recently licensed some IPTV providers, crap do they have to charge that much as an upstart! I can get HULU with a heck of a lot more for less.

You can get a discount through teksavvy or some other third party provider, but bell and rogers own the market period.

Even if you buy from another company, it is still Bell that supplies the internet service. My only complaint is the price and that they jack it up anytime they feel like it. The only way to fight back is to find the best price and then they will match it and give you a couple of months off free.

That is what Hell / Robbers would like you to believe, it is not true.

Say you went with a Teksavvy DSL service, yes the 'last mile' from the exchange to your house is running over Bell wires and possibly those wires connect to a Ball DSLAM at the exchange, but your data will leave the exchange on a dedicated Teksavvy backhaul circuit to the Tesksavvy datacentre to be sent out to the Internet.

The Incumbent providers would like you to believe that independant ISPs are just reselling their service, but in reality all the Independents are doing is renting wholesale that last stretch of copper cable from your local exchange to your house and a little space and power in that exchange.

Stop complaining, you guys could easily pay $5/month. If you guys drop down $250 for sex, then how come you guys can't pay an measly extra $5.

It's not the $5 - it's the principle - being a loyal customer and they nickle & dime you up above competitive rates and you have to call them out on it. But look it isn't just Bell, it's Rogers too.
The fact is they spent a ton getting customers but don't really maintain them. But think about it - what business is going to call up a customer and reduce the price. I know this thread is about an increase but realize that tech prices drop rapidly so if they just maintain your price you are over paying. Check the price on a terabyte harddrive?

Also be aware that whatever you garner from them with your complaint call is only temporary - look at your bill carefully - those discounts come off in a year.

Also Bell tries to give you deals and 'lock' you into a contract (the 'ole cell phone contract scheme) - say no! The contract by the way ties you in and leaves them foot loose and fancy free.

I have resolved myself to the fact that every fall I have to call (set aside 1/2 day) and rework my service provider.

It doesn't matter if you are with bell or rogers, they will always pull these stunts. I did my co-op at bell and many of the customers for alternative ISP are angry ex rogers or bell customers, but in the end the company they signed up with are sending bell employees to setup their internet/phone. That being said, even though the other companies are using bell / rogers lines, they still provide decent service. However if bell needs to do maintenance, they will shut down their service until everything is ready for optimal and you will have less propriety. Your best bet is to always make a complaint about them increasing your bill every time. They will take notice how often you do, but you should always complain. It will save you a lot in the long run if you plan to stay.

Frankly, if you're still with them, you're part of the problem. Bell DSL 25: $39.95/month for 3 months, then $61.95/month. Teksavvy DSL 25: $39.99/month, not an introductory rate.

Yes, part of Teksavvy DSL will run over Bell lines, part of Teksavvy cable will run over Rogers lines. But would you rather give Bell $39.95/month every month with the hassle of calling constantly to get a reduction, or give Teksavvy $39.99/month with no hassle and let Bell take just a cut?

If Teksavvy had enough customers, they could make real changes. They even fight for things like net neutrality against people like Bell. Quit being part of the problem. If you have Bell or Rogers stop giving the, your money. You'll still put some in their pocket, but it will be less, and you'll be directly funding not only their business competition, but their legal competition too.

Here is a kicker, Hydro has the infrastructure to provide blazing fast internet over their lines BUT they sold it to Rogers. The smart meter is the connection. We could have had a true third provider, help pay down the debt...... Oops, I forgot, they'd piss that away too and probably go into more debt.
