I thought the Ukrainian signs said down with any Ukrainian who can't speak Ukrainian without an accent. They would have written signs like that 10 years ago.... It isn't funny, it is the way they are

Racist, even with their own countrymen.
That is the shit that you read about on the Russian Facebook, it is disturbing and it backs my theory that there is little hope for Ukraine.
what's disturbing is that anyone can believe what they read on russian facebook. It is the lowest of the low of the internet.

Sorry you are not well informed about Ukraine. AND there is no book, no news agency that is able to really enlighten you.

My wife is laughing at you.... Not me

I am sorry that you are married to someone who reads news like "According to the people, who collected the bodies, many of the corpses are "not fresh." The people had died several days before the disaster."

Thanks... But don't be sorry for me, I'm the envy of all my friends
We'll talk in 5-7 years if Ukraine is still in one piece discussing the same thing...

it's times like this that I am most grateful to my parents for having brought me to canada when I was 3, and left all that European shit behind. How very fortunate we are to be living in canada. The rest of the world looks seriously messed up from this perspective
The collective moronic psyche of Eurasia and the middleast is a recipe for self destruction. Just a matter of time. And we worry about global warming. Lol

Can't the same be said about facebook here? Is there some mechanism that prevents Canadians from believing what they read on facebook?

I think we can generalize, anyone who gets their news from any version of Facebook, tumblr, 4chan, etc, is a kook.

Believe me she shuts up people on the Russian Facebook, comment like oagre are exactly the types of comments that are on there too. The western (northern ) part of Ukraine are typically racist and are directed toward their fellow countrymen.
Trying to effect change in a country by seizing power and not through a process is wrong. Hoping the west will be handing out buckets of money. Naive is to think that this is an internal struggle trying to rid the country of corruption, which is engrained into the Ukrainian people.
Naive is to think that either RT or CNN report the situation as unbiased. Naive is to think that Putin shot the plane down. Probably a Russian made missle handled by incompetent combatants. These things happen all the time by us made and Russian made weapons.
Like the northern Ukrainians, the crimeans and the eastern Ukrainians want to choose their path. I believe the word is self-determination, so then the fighter would be called freedom fighters. This is the distortion that plagues the news agencies that are spewing for the governments and yes oagre, RT is included.
Did I mention that the protester in Kiev were being paid?
BUT in the meantime people are dieing as outside influences ( on both sides ) play games.

You're correct of course. I thought they were being comics, but my Slavic translations are highly dubious.

I take it that any claim you made that the demonstrators had anti-Russian signs is pure racist horseshit on your part. Let's leave it at that and move on then.

Pretty typical post from someone who's from an anti Kiev part of Ukraine or married to someone who is. It goes:

"There is no validity to the demonstrations that brought down Yanukovich. All the demonstrators were paid and manipulated by the USA. And they were all racist Russian-haters from Western Ukraine. And we all know all Western Ukrainians are lazy, incompetent scoundrels who will ruin the entire country. Unlike Donbas people who are hard-working, decent, down-to-earth Russian speaking heroes. And Ukraine is so corrupt it will collapse anyway. All media who report on the issue are corrupt, sensationalist tools of their govts. Western media is as bad as Russian media. The separatist militia are brave freedom fighters. Putin is a good guy and the Soviet Union was actually a pretty darn good place."

Which would be fine if the "freedom fighters" in Donbas were not so obviously hired mercs from Russia and Chechnya operating under Kremlin control. And if the Kremlin was not operating a bizarre anti-Western propaganda campaign that far outdoes even the worst stuff I have seen from the West. And if the Ukrainians MIGHT NOT actually get their shit together and deal with their corruption and economic issues in the wake of Maidan.

If you go back and read everything that Stay has posted in this thread, it's pretty obvious he has a dog in the race and which dog that is.

Nope, trust me Putin is very popular right now in Russia. This usually happens to leaders when a country is at war (or in a proxy war), everyone rallies behind the leader. I wouldnt be surprised if thats the exact reason why Putin started this whole Ukraine mess, just to prop up his popularity

Stay, I didn't say Putin shot down the plane. That imagines he himself sat there pulling the trigger.

What plainly happened is he provided the launcher to rebels who idiotically used it to shoot at anything that came near, and the first thing to come by was the passenger jet.

What Putin did was try and cover it up.

Unless you actually believe that crazy nonsense about a plane preloaded with dead bodies.... The evidence is really clear. Stupid but unintentional mistake followed by a comically inept coverup.

What people fail to see and understand is that both the US and Russia supply arms to inept groups around the world. The tradegy is no one cares that REAL people die and suffer from it. The motives are usually hidden from the average citizen. So when I hear that the CIA now say that they believe the missle used to shoot the plane down was Russian and it was a mistake, that is believable. Going on to say that it is Russia's fault for supplying arms is unfortunately calling the kettle black. That is the world in which we live.
You do understand that if a free vote was held in the eastern part of Ukraine that their choice may be that they would want to continue with a strong association with Russia, the hand that feed them. It should also be noted that in addition to the mercenaries, there are town folk that are joining in this cival/international war. Naive to think otherwise.

The banner they're holding reads: Glory to [our] nation. (as was translated above)

Nothing racist about that during a time of war/crisis.

As best as I can tell, the crowd is chanting: "One, United, Sovereign Ukraine".

Nothing racist about that either during a time of war/crisis. (Of course, Putin–khuylo is a different story...)

I think you and your wife may have been drinking a little too much lead-laden high percentage self-distilled homebrew from your brother-in-law.

I stick to the good stuff! :thumb:
It was a joke of sorts, the Northern Ukrainians I would compare with the separatist in Quebec years ago by making the native English speaking Quebecers feel not welcome in their own home.

You have two groups of idiots in Ukraine. In my opinion, it is just another power grab and the same shit that has been going on for years will continue. They would do well as a country, united and working with both the west and the russian federation but the northerns are not interested in that and the easterners are afraid to chance a life that to them was comfortable.
I see and understand both sides as a realist, as a pessimist I don't see hope.

I don't think anyone believes it, but I don't think many people have seen bodies that just fell out of the sky from FL330. Assuming you are not killed by missile shrapnel I am not sure what the typical cause of death is. Hypopoxia, broken neck from being flung into 900 kmh turbulance, impact with ground. But at the end of the day we don't know who exactly said that or if it was planted to destroy credibility.

Considering the state-run Ukrainian arms export business was known selling arms to both sides in Libya and various other middle eastern countries (see wikileaks cables for evidence), this almost seems like justice. It's just sad that in both cases civilians have been caught in the crossfire. I suspect it won't make a difference though. You'd think after US-lead regime changes have resulted time and time again in the US going to war with people they put in power fighting against weapons they supplied, they would have learned too. But they don't seem to see it. Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, heck, even Russia... and those are just the big ones. I suspect Ukraine won't learn their lesson here either.

Not to mention all we have is Ukraine and the US saying that arms have been delivered to rebels from Russia. As far as I can tell, there's only 1 video that shows a handful of tanks "crossing the border". What's interesting is if you look at the videos, they are very clearly T-64M BULAT variants, which are retrofits done in Ukraine for the exclusive use of the Ukrainian Army (very distinctive armour plus augmented smoke grenade launchers of a type and in a position not common to any other T-64 variation). Of course, the US and Ukraine thought they were T-72's to begin with as well, which just goes to show you that the people reporting on this probably aren't the greatest at military vehicle identification to begin with (perhaps they should go to fighter pilot school and be forced to learn this type of stuff to make sure they don't bomb the wrong people). Russia's defunct T-64's awaiting destruction that the US and Ukraine claim are being funneled to rebels are T-64BV variants (vastly different armour configuration sans the fancy smoke grenade launchers). The fact that Jane's and the CIA had once reported the destruction of those T-64's was completed in 2012 but have since retracted their statement is interesting too. I guess having them still kicking around makes for a more interesting narrative when you're trying to convince the world that Russia is conducting a clandestine invasion.

Of course, Russia probably is selling/gifting arms to rebels in Ukraine. I have no doubt of it myself. I just think it's hilarious that the "proof" is all obviously fabricated to anyone who bothers to research it.
