Not much can be done about cheap hydro now.
We coasted on power from the falls and nukes for a long time, but we've tapped out the easy hydro and everyone is getting shy about nuclear after Japan.

Natural gas is cheapish now, as is coal, but both have issues that make it questionable to depend on them.

What could the cons do differently that would make hydro cheap?
Well I suppose they would start by not keeping a debt retirement charge on our bills that was paid four years ago.........

It is a lot closer than that once you take into account transfer payments to the provinces
Besides the Feds grab has been trending downward, the govt of Ont is addicted to spending and they have been trending upwards to a bigger grab of your wallet
All that comes with massive downloading of services to the provinces. Also, why not kill tranfer payments and allow provinces to do their own taxation then? Federal spending has grown substantially under the Tories. Which is why were went from surpluses and tax cuts under the loony left liberals to deficits under the Tories. ...and a tax cut for their corporate buddies while the books were still in the red.

We're already heading that way.

But it would separate the country into petro provinces and the poor.

Well apparently there are 11,000 people at Ont Hydro making over $100K / year = $1.1 B, perhaps there is some opportunity to trim there

Add the size of a tax cut right onto the deficit faster than chocolate cake goes on your waistline. The newfound money in corporate hands becomes dead money in the face of low aggregate demand.

Have some free money. No you have no responsibility to invest in new plant and equipment. You are welcome.

Corp tax rates must be competitive or off they go with the jobs
Free money ? No grants, no corporate welfare, just a competitive environment.

There is a lot of payroll taxes which should be examined to be competitive. Those are job killers

Its fun to read the comics,...

What a waste of time debating with the commie twins,...absolutely NO substance,...

The subject was corp. tax rates,...the suddenly becomes the deficit,...

AVOIDANCE MAN and DEFLECTOR MAN,... strikes again.

The statement that The deficit is composed of uncollected Taxes on the rich and the corporations., has to be one of the MOST ridiculous statements put up by anybody here,...
So in other words,...just spend/waste like idiots, and then blame the deficit on corporations,...:frusty:

That is one of the stupidest thing you have ever said & you say stupid shit all the time

The Ont govt revenues have increased from approx. $85B in 2004 to approx. $110 B in 2013
Sadly the spending has increased at a faster rate in order to line the unions pockets
This is not a tax collection issue, it is an irresponsible spending issue

At a cost of $153 B in new debt
That's $1.5 MM for each of the extra 100,000 PS employees hired over the same time period.
If a business spent $1.5 MM to hire each employee, they would all soon be unemployed , the firm would be bankrupt

This is unsustainable & you know it

Inflation and population growth are "big improvements to our way of life"?

In any event, all-day kindergarten is a perfect example of how money is being wasted.

According to the government's own research, the merits of the program are very debatable. But even if you support it, there is no reason why every class requires both an early childhood educator and an elementary school teacher.

The ECEs are more than capable of doing the job. The teachers are only there because the Liberal government was sucking up to the elementary teachers' union.

You could preserve the program and get rid of the elementary teachers, saving about $1 billion a year in operating costs.
