Surprised there hasn't been a thread about this. Quebec teenager Eugenie Bouchard is about to face off against 4th seeded Na Li in the semifinals of the Australian Open. She is the first Canadian singles tennis player to make the semifinals of a grand slam event since 1984 when Carling Bassett made the semifinals of the US Open. Quite the accomplishment.

Yep - and it is getting ugly fast. First set, and Genie hasn't won a point yet on her serve. She looks really nervous.

She played a really tough player tonight. Genie fought hard and had an unbelievable tournament. I think she did amazing for her first Aussie Open. It is amazing how good she is and how mentally strong she is already and she is only 19. A lot of good years to come for her. Canadian tennis is starting to look good. If Pospisil can stay healthy he will be good and Milos is starting to get better now too.

Watched the match last night, Genie had a tough start. I think nerves got the better of her. But she settled down in the second set and kept it close. She lost to a better opponent fair and square. But damn this girl is 19 and she's killing it. Finally putting Canadian women's tennis on the map again. I'd be shocked if she didn't win a major within the next 3 years.

I seem to recall a similar acting group of guys following around Adam Scott during recent tournaments in Oz. Maybe not quite as exuberant (but close) due to A) golf being a more staid sport and B) Adam Scott having some anatomical differences to Genie.

Being a Schlepperello is not so bad, it sound less obscene than a faccini and is less derisive than a jabroni. And no, I did not make it up. The term was first coined by that scion of all classical composers PDQ Bach. But it was Larry David/Jerry Sinefeld who created the King of all Schlepperellos!
