The things I quoted from your post were all good ideas that should earn her votes.

More than $40 million on child and family projects. RIGHT ON!

Wrong again Bubba, my post is there to show her flip flops on everything she previously stated. A carbon copy of that walking stiff Dalton McGuinty. Another example of a duplicitous bottom feeder, and Chow is in the same echelon. Y'all really drank deeply from the kool aid pitcher didn't you?

Not as brilliant as 'sheet' brilliance.
Pfft...autocorrect, I stand corrected. That doesn't change the fact that her idea is stupid, almost as stupid as supporting bike lanes on major arterial roads in the city. Putting bike lanes on Jarvis was awesome, how else could you fuck up my commute to and from work? Not to mention that other asinine idea of adding bike lanes on University through hospital row.

I'm positive these people sit around a table thinking of ways to fuck with people's lives..... Let's see what would happen if we were to add more bike lanes, more busses during rush hour, and for good measure, let's throw in another stupid idea like the St Clair streetcar right-of -way debacle into the mix and we'll really fix up the downtown core...fucking bullocks!!

Still, anyone who prioritizes the things like families and children as highlighted in your post is worth voting for.

I note that some rehab for crack smokers was on your list. Talk about reaching out and extending a helping hand to your political opponents! She sounds like a great leader.

More dedicated bus lanes. We should also have more HOV lanes and ultimately tolls on the expressways at least for SOV's.
One thing the city should look into is having an advanced green for transit vehicles. Get those beasts out of the intersection as quickly as possible.

I get around.
I think you need to get your head examined Bubba, none of what I posted about Chow was positive. It goes to show that she'll say one thing in front of a camera or audience and do another in chambers. She's nothing more than a self serving career politician who happens to have an annoying self deprecating narcissism about her. Read part of her nauseating book and it'll be obvious.

Do you know why the majority of Canadians don't like the NDP? It's because they always lose! And if the New Democrats smugly think they're so fucking smart, why do they lose so god damn always?
But Torontonians love losers, just look at the Leafs.

And if you make a habit of driving on Jarvis during rush hour, you should not be giving advice about transportation policy.

Let's add more busses on the already congested roads, absolute brilliance!
A bus holding 25 people takes up the same space as 3 cars holding 3 people.

Yes, having more people using more buses is absolutely better than more cars.

I don't think it's Olivia Chow who is the inept one.

Marcus. I'm a Tory fan at this point. But expanding busses is actually a good thing. There are some underserviced routes in the city and this will actually assist with gridlock a bit. It is a good temporary measure until more subways can be built. Adding some express buses to the core could help as well.

Hopefully Stintz when she drops out and possibly takes back the TTC chair looks at this one beyond who the messenger is and implements it.

...until more subways can be built'?

With the current environment of no'mo'money'honey for transit, those temporary buses will be a long term solution for the fantasy trains.

Stintz will be offered a post on The Lawn Bowling Committee.

Stintz is going to drop out at some point and throw for backing to Tory as she reruns for her Council seat. The next Mammolitti as it were. Her thinking is she gets the ttc chair back and gets partial credit if more subways get approved. But no loss as it all falls on Tory. This is her first shot at the title. I'm betting she knew she would lose and just wanted to get more name recognition for later.

As for funding I'm still not counting out the Feds. The 2015 election is coming with a surplus. They are going to want to make a splash and subway funding would be in their wheel house. It depends on Who is mayor though. No way they give it up to Chow. Think about that when you place your vote people.

Yes I know they said maybe no more. But things change in an election(look at Mitzie's by-election to see how flip happen quickly). If seats can be saved gained they will fund it.

Here's an idea, why not take a hard look at the current GO train system and roll that and the TTC into one entity? Add more accessible stops to the GO train, and kill 2 birds with one stone. Modernize GO, and expand commuter rail service on existing infrastructure for the entire region in addition to better utilizeing stretched resources. I'm sure TTC unions will fight that one to the grave. And above all else take the politicians out of the transit equation altogether!

This is a good idea. It isn't the union, it's the intergovernmental turf wars that would fight it tooth and nail. You would have to centralize transit under Metrolinx and everybody in each GTA city would get huffy about giving up control of their fief.

But if we did it we could have a unified transit system spanning from St. Catherine's to Barrie and Oshawa which would have many benefits. Also like you say, in the city GO could take some load off the TTC.

GO I believe just anounced another expansion of service on their Barrie lines. As well as the recent half hour train service expansion. I have no doubt that they will continue to add more as they can.

But it does nothing really for the city residents. Most of their traffic is from the suburbs(with Scarborough having several stops as well, the rest just a few). Better bus and Subway service is more suited to the actual city.

I know a number of people in south Scarberia and North York that take Go to work. They love GO. Costs a bit more but they think it's worth it.

Personally I'm all in favour of massive transit expansion and lowering of fares (free) to be paid for by user fees on the DVP/Gardiner, especially for out of towners, and taxes. Our gridlock is pathetic and getting worse (can't wait until this proposed Gardiner tear down ). With cheap, reliable transit that I was already paying for, I'd find myself using the car a lot less.

The idea would be to run local trains in the city on the GO lines, improve signaling so trains can run every five or ten minutes both ways, increase the number of stations, and use it as an alternative to the TTC subway. Meaning, your TTC token gets you a bus ride to the train station and without any additional fare, you transfer and ride that train downtown.

Before you say that is not cost effective, it eliminates the need to build a new line at a cost of a billion dollars.

It is an interesting idea. And may work on certain lines. But something like the Lakeshore line? Tough to see both logistically(remember that both Via and transpot trains use the line as well) and getting people to the stations.

GO train is really set up for Bedroom communities and car culture for transit to the downtown core. Whether for work or major events. One of the things that make it work so efficiently is minimal stops. The more you put in you slow it down. Its also designed to move a large mass at once from the central hub(union) and drop to various spots where the car takes over(ever see the parking lot sizes).

I have a GO train station about 10+ minutes walk from my house and work downtown off rush hour time. I also have the 501 streetcar a 2 minute walk from me. Between cost (metropass vs cost of GO is about 150+ more for GO per month) and timing(about 10 min for streetcar wait anytime vs exact time for GO) its worth the extra time on TTC (maybe 10-15 minutes) to travel on it. Not to mention that the cost only includes going to work. I use transit as my main mode to go all over the city.

Trying to meld them would I think overall increase the cost of transit in the city. And the point of public transit is to make it cheap for low income to travel. People who take GO tend to be home owners, car owners with good jobs. Those on TTC are a much wider income mix.

Unless the subsidy for TTC extended to GO as well when amalgamated and a low cost monthy pass was in the mix I think it would be detrimental to a lot of people.

I've also heard the cost to electify the trains would be prohibitive and the diesel trains seem to give people issues. Politically I think it would be a huge fight. So I don't see it on the radar.
