He said that people saying healthcare is too expensive just haven't looked at what they are spending on cable TV and mobile phone bills and have not prioritized correctly… not misleading at all. If a Republican said something like this the lefty jackboots here would be on the march.
I never understood this type of rationalizing.

From an economic perspective, all that is saying is that your standard of living is going down.

Priorities are one thing. Erosion of the standard of living is glossed over IMO.

Of course the health care premiums (or cable) wouldn't be an issue in the first place if the GOP hadn't scuttled any possibility of a Universal Health Care plan.

So you 'need' cable tv, the sports package for sure and cell phone, with all the bells and whistles, to have a quality of life and make it through the day?

Can't wait for you to argue for the other side of the argument like you did with the debate on the success or failure of the movie Avatar.

My understanding of America is that people make decisions for themselves.

It is not the state's business how they spend their money, unless it is in illegal activity.

Then you would like to see a public option available with Obamacare. Why not?

There are countless examples, some big and some small where the truth is anything but. Perhaps they do ,ake more decisions than someone who lives in Myanmar, but certain have carte blanc in deciding their destiny.

Perhaps it's more correct to say they think make decisions for themselves except when they want others to take responsibiltiy.

But if people in the state decide they want the state to buy them affordable health care like we have up here, then its the state's business.

Just read an interesting article, which I won't link because you won't read it, that argued that you can't have a democracy if the two parties can be bought by big business/1%/rich folk.

Discuss.

But what if the people change their mind and decide we do not want the state to provide that service anymore, such as ... say ... garbage collection. Types like yourself will ...

Democracy, as I understand it in the western world, principle point is one person one vote. After that, then that is in dispute.

In a place like China, democracy means people have enough to eat, they have economic opportunity, that they have low taxes. No vote though.

My guess that your vision of democracy and your friends, is keep the vote but distribute the wealth via taxes in order to eliminate poverty.

The main problem there is that you fail to appreciate that the west while having the vote, also has the rule of law, especially in the area of property rights.

I think the state can ask for some private wealth, but no way it has any right to private wealth.

What is mine is mine. That is universal in all cultures and human history. We do not need a charter of rights to understand that.

But you guys think what is mine is really yours (after we win the election and screw you with taxes).

Uphold property rights. Not only the rich buy into this, the middle class even more so. Even the majority of people running for mayor in this city.

.
So you think that even if the majority decides and votes for taxes to pay services that you personally should be exempt.
Sounds like you really either don't understand how democracy works, don't want to live in a democracy or would prefer to be a parasite making use of democratically approved social services.

I understand that there are countries that mostly operate they way it sounds like you want them to, you could always just move there instead of using our services and then complaining that you have to help pay for them.

I would suggest Somalia. Basically no government to bother or tax you.
Good luck.

You should get out more often, nothing is further from the truth. Among other examples, something as simple as eminent domain in the US, under many different names, is common throughput many democracies, Canada included.

Arctic cultures, like the Inuit in our country, have among their cultural beliefs that possession isn't 9/10 of the law, common property and sharing is quite common.

Your reasoning is bizarre.

In this city, Ford was elected on the mandate of subways and lower taxes via cut the gravy.

I remember you screaming that it was all wrong. You support fervently every attempt to undermine and oust Ford, simply based on his policies.

Why cannot you wait four years to try to vote him out, rather than what we have witness so far.

Your socialist view of democracy is the only type you can tolerate. To the point that all other views and people who do not hold them are to be dismissed.

You actually want to exile me to Somalia, do you not?

Haha - that's your type of democracy in action!

:blabla:

If you live in an igloo, that is none of my business. Until you want to get some sort of subsidy for it, then that would be up for discussion.
