I don't know about you but I think there's a big difference between "a bit of recreational smoking from time to time" and this:

He is a fucking lying sack of shit. He lies about everything.
Still refuses to admit he has any problems, even though are so many known instances of his being fucked up on drugs and booze in the last couple of years. Keeps acting as if each incident is separate and saying he's not an addict, he just made "mistakes".
Repeatedly buying drugs is not a mistake. Repeatedly driving drunk is not a mistake. He didn't get drunk fall down and accidentally sit up with a crack pipe in his mouth. (Mis)Using his position in politics to cover his life as a criminal was not a mistake.

I'm sure most of the inmates in Canada's prisons would be more than willing to offer an apology in order to secure their release , but Rob Ford is "special".
