So now the Libs, having blown too much money in gas plants, and demonstrating a complete failure in green energy are raising electricity prices. What's interesting about this one is that the higher percentage increase is for electricity during off peak hours. So if you followed their recommendation of using power on off peak hours, they are now screwing you more...makes sense from a Lib perspective. From my perspective, the Libs asked us to conserve and are now penalizing us for doing so. What amazes me is that they ever thought the whole off peak program would be successful in the first place. It costs the same amount to produce the power and we use the same amount regardless of the time of day but they are charging less on off peak hours...where did they think the money was coming from when the initiated the program. They fail on pretty much every portfolio and apparently aren't too bright when it comes to fiscal planning...no surprise there.

Time for these incompetent idiots to go. Problem is who is going to replace them?

She's putting her strap-on to good use the only problem is she's not using lube. If the Liberals win the provincial election again we should see the profits of K-Y Jelly Canada go up, because Ontarians will be stocking up on it in preparation for the frequent strap-on attacks by the Liberals.

The government and hydro have been preaching energy conservation for years so now that we have saved so much energy, hydro ups the price to make up for lost revenue. Its the same o;d story we all get fucked coming and going

And I''ve been told by fans of Tesla Motors that there is little to worry about
rising gas cost and pollution. We'll all switch to electric cars in the future.

At one time the purpose of electricity in this province was to power the industrial growth of the most prosperous province in this country. That started to change in the late 80's when the provincial government added billions to the cost of Darlington to delaying its construction. Since then every government has used electricity issues as nothing more than a way to get elected. There have been very few intelligent decisions made by government regarding the electricity sector in the last 25 years and lots of dumb, expensive ones. The cancelled gas plants are the latest for which the Liberals said "you know, those plants are not needed after all". And then within weeks they announce that those same plants are being built somewhere else. The bullshit is piling up so high around the Liberals that the party's official colour should be changed from red to brown. The OP asks who replaces them? Good question, but I cannot stand the thought of rewarding these liars with more time in office.

The gas plant was there to help offset our aging nuclear reactors. That's gone so now we have more expensive options, though its a small part of the issues.
We're on a temporary lull in oil/gas prices while fracking is still considered palatable, but soon we're going to need more of those green options.

We don't want coal, gas is cheap now but won't be forever, we've tapped out the best of the hydro and we're not too excited about nuclear.
Any other options besides green?

Green is not an option. Way to expensive and those wind farms only work when it's windy. They also piss off property owners. Green energy as we have it in Ontario is a failure...mush like the government that pushed the green energy agenda.

Quebec still generates a lot of electricity by hydroelectric power.

In the past they've sold excess to the US and may still do.

I'm pretty sure some of Ontario's tax dollars like Alberta's subsidize other provinces including Quebec.

Ontario is pretty close to Quebec so why not strike a deal for some of that excess electricity?

Quebec's excess could better be utilized in Canada leaving more fossil fueled derived sources to be exported.

Wonder why Ontario stopped generating power at Niagara Falls? Maybe too expensive to retrofit the old equipment?

Hydro is green, and its our cheapest source in Ontario at present.

What are you all talking about? Fuji will come along and tell you that it's either ; 1. it's all the fault of Mike Harris and that the liberal have done nothing wrong. 2. It's in our best interest to pay higher rates so that we don't use as much. 3. The money is needed for system upgrades and for investment capital to further green energy.. What a load of horse shit, this should be the final nail in the liberal's coffin, off peak hydro has gone up over 100% since 2007, this is another McGuinty/Liberal ass fucking at its best!

We didn't. Sir Adam Beck generating station is still running strong. In fact they recently completed the Niagara tunnel which will increase the amount of power that can be generated there.

Ontario's problem with hydroelectric is that we're basically tapped out and the only remaining feasible locations all come with a lot of baggage (i.e., natives own the land and want the sun and the moon for it).

Big surprise.
We've built no new plants except for natural gas turbines.
No new nukes, a tiny bit of new hydro and closed down our coal burners.

What's your solution?

For starters they shouldn't have shut down the coal plants until they had a plan, even if it was a deal with Quebec for power in the interm and not have rushed into the failure that is green energy. They should have looked at California's green energy debacle. What they should have done was invest in proven nuclear energy, it's clean, efficient and proven to work when the wind doesn't blow or the sun doesn't shine. Thirdly, not allow politicians to be involved in the process and outside of engineering limit hydro's medeling in the construction process. Like the TTC, hydro is notorious at delays and cost over runs because nobody there can make a decision without bureaucratic and political interference .

Quebec isn't the solution. They're too busy raping Newfoundland with the prices they're charging them.
