Are you addicted to porn?

I watched Don Jon yesterday and it made me think again on how porn is so prevalent in society now.

When I was a teenager in the 80's, I used to stay up late and look at the scrambled channels in hopes of seeing a tit or a nipple, and my porn consumption was going to the corner store once every few months to pick up a Hustler magazine (which was heavily censored, black bars everywhere and no penetration was allowed to be shown) or Mayfair (large breasted British women in black stockings), embarrassingly paying for the magazine to the old man at the store and carrying it away in a paper bag. In short, porn wasn't a big part of my life and I recall that I had a lot of hobbies and friends.

Nowadays, teenagers can see the most graphic full high def videos of any sexual act they can think of and acts they would never even think of all in seconds with a click of the mouse. Any google/youtube search can yield the actual results of porn and desensitization. Like the character in Don Jon, I have been a regular (daily?) consumer of porn since I got high speed internet, over 10 years now. I've tried quitting and have gone as much as 2 weeks with no porn but I always go back.

Just now I was trying to clean up the approx 1 TB of porn on my hard drive and came across some clips of Jenna Pressley who was one of my favorites. I wondered what had happened to her and I found out she quit porn last year and found Jesus. Now I'm non-religious so I don't identify with the religion part, but I watched the clip and it made me sad that she was so unhappy and suicidal, but also happy that she has found happiness.

I've also realized that in my 40's now and having been single for almost a year now, I don't have many hobbies anymore or friends, I spend a lot of my free time watching porn. Is anyone else here experiencing a similar lifestyle now? I'm in a rut and am having a hard time getting out of it.

Dude. You have to find a hobby that gets you away from your computer. Do something outside, with or without people. I think watching porn daily is an issue. Hell, go find some real chicks.

I'm 39 and have always been single. Back in the day not a bad looking guy either. Just never found the right women. Part of my problem is the only thing that turns me on sexually, is porn type of sex. I'm totally addicted and have been in a rut from my mid 20's. Mix in the fact I have a drinking problem, has prevented me from doing so many things. Has cost me a lot of money, and I don't just mean spending. It's caused a screeching hault career wise.

Hopefully yours won't last as long as mine.

I like porn, watch a little everyday but wouldn't say I'm addicted to it. I also watch it together with my SO. We'll watch something and then try it, whether it's positions, locations or anything in between. I do like the fact that I no longer have to pay for porno magazines and DVD's. There's also many sites that have conveniently categorized all the vids. On another note, Jenna Pressley does absolutely nothing for me.

Yes, I can relate to a lot of that. I'm about the same age, but I've always had a thing for porn - the binge purge thing when I was younger, accompanied with Catholic shame and the fear of getting caught. Sometimes I think my hobby-ing has been a replacement for porn, even though I still waste too much time and attention on-line. I think if I don't give it too much attention, but indulge when I can, it doesn't loom so large.
Part of it is realizing will-power is over-rated - set yourself up in the environment you want - if you want to stop snacking, don't keep snacks in the house. If you want to cut down on porn, don't kid yourself that your just going to check a few pics just for a look.

On the other hand (pun intended,) you can just embrace it, get off, and get on with things. There is a whole movement on tumblr I've found called "gooning" which is essentially fetishizing the idea of being a porn-addicted deviant. I get it actually - the call to give in to your deviance.

Not sure what I'm saying exactly. I guess aim for moderation in all things, except moderation, I guess.

This doesn't necessarily get to the root of the problem, but it's a good way to start.

I once was without internet for several weeks (gasp!) and never once looked at porn online (or Terb, for that matter) during that time, nor did I feel the urge to.
It really is possible to get it out of your system if you don't have the constant temptation. Like anything else, your interest for it will fade the less time you spend involved with it.

I think that's a good non-scientific litmus test. If porn went away, would you be able to function in your daily life w/o it? If your internet was down, or your router wifi was on the fritz, would you be okay for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month?

My brother-in-law was addicted to the internet, maybe not porn per se, he couldn't be w/o being online for even one day. Our vacations were planned around which hotels had better wifi access for example. He wouldn't go on vacation otherwise. My sister divorced him eventually... for that and other reasons

I bet if the OP didn't have such easy, instant access to porn, he'd be okay. And if not, then maybe addiction could be said. Then again, is it really that bad to be addicted to porn? There are much worse and harmful things you could do to your body like drinking and smoking. Gambling is a big one these days. I think I am also addicted to the internet, but mainly eBay and forums, like this one!

For me, porn is a bit of a rollercoaster. To put it in context, I find that at first I am interested....then very interested....then extremely interested....then suddenly I lose all interest. Fast forward an hour or so and the cycle repeats itself.....the only thing that occurs over time is a sore penis and arm cramps. Is this normal?

Love porn.kind of funny hearing a 250 plus pound girl telling a porn star how things work .
Whats the difference between a porn addiction and a masturbation addiction ? I find that I need orgasm virtually every other day to steady the nerves from the job. I prefer female contact but failing this, staring at TV programming is not going to provide the required stimulation for the female replacement. Porn is great for this - thousands of websites with video categories to select my particular flavour for the day and it's free !

You should try to balance things out. Try working out, get some exercise, go for a run or play sports.

You will get in shape and it will meet new people (if you play sports)
