Not surprised with your state of confusion, since most bean-counters like you are by nature as befuddled as a Limbaugh lemming...:eyebrows:

2) You neglect to discuss torque, which is how fast the engine actually spins.
That is not correct. As an example - torque is how long the wrench is that is used on a bolt, horsepower is how hard you pull on that wrench. It has nothing to do with engine RPM.

You have to admit the quality pecking order is German > Japanese > American ..... the price goes the opposite way but then you'd expect that.

What is the difference between quality and reliability? Look at reliability rating of BMW 3-series, and Toyota corolla:
http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/BMW_3-Series/
http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Toyota_Corolla/

I think when you say "quality" you only consider luxuriousness, lots of eletronic gadgets and sports car like handling that makes you feel like 007. But it 99.999% of usage of car is to get you from point A to point B safely. By looking at the above two cars only, you would be a fool to choose BMW unless you need it as a status symbol to serve as an ego booster.

Audis in China are not the same as the ones we get here or in Europe. Yes, I've been to the commercial centres in China and see them everywhere too. Those Audis are manufactured in China, specifically for the Chinese market using lower end materials, production quality is less precise, don't conform to Western safety standards and have less features and gadgets as NA/Euro Audis. They are aimed at the entry to mid level sedan market, ie Camrys, Accords, Altimas, Sonatas, etc. while having a German badge. Buicks on the other hand are crap, regardless of where you buy them. Some of the most boring cars on the market. GM should have killed the brand along with Pontiac, Hummer, etc.

As for your taxi analogy, Mercedes E-Classes, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 are used as taxis in Europe, the Middleast, South Africa, etc. Does that diminish their quality and status? Debatable.

You are correct each car are built with specs to each country. There is a big difference between European Audi and NA Audi as to adhere to regional laws and customer needs. But I do not think there is that huge of a difference afterall, it is an Audi. Would it really bother you if Chinese one day started exporting Audi to NA, and you can buy it at half the price as European built Audi, with exact same shell and appearance? I bet there will be lots of buyers! Afterall, 99% of Eurotrash buyers are after a status symbol, and the Audi, BMW, MB badge alone serves the purpose.

Passed by Powertrain plant numerous times over the years but have never been in it. GM's Tonawanda Engine Plant recently had an 'Open House' event for the public a few weeks ago but missed that to. GM's Tonawanda Engine Plant is rated as one of the BEST most efficient motor plants in the World by JD Powers! Quite an accomplishment for both GM and the UAW! While Tonawanda Engine Plant is doing very well now plant population is only ~1000 workers. Years ago, before Republican Globalism, several thousand worked there.

On a related note here's a story on a Classic Vette, back when 'Muscle Cars' had some real BALLS ~560 horsepower!!!

Corvette sold for $3.4 million has local horsepower

1967 L88 model auctioned off for $3.4 million

The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88, shown at top, gets its amazing horsepower from a V8 “big block” engine built at the General Motors plant in the Town of Tonawanda. Only 20 were produced in 1967.

A 1967 Corvette has sold for $3.4 million, by far the highest price ever fetched by a Corvette at auction.

Naturally, there is a local connection: the “big block” engine which generated the car’s mammoth horsepower was built at General Motors’ Town of Tonawanda plant.

The maroon L88 was one of nearly 1,000 muscle and classic cars that were sold last weekend at the Mecum Auction in Dallas, Texas. The previous reported record high auction sale price for a Corvette was $1.76 million, in 2008. (The $3.4 million price included the auction company’s fee; without the fee, the sale price was about $3.2 million.)

Wisconsin-based Mecum Auctions calls the Corvette L88 “one of the world’s most collectible American sports cars.” Only 20 of the vehicles were produced in 1967, among just 216 produced over a three-year period in the 1960s, making the cars a rare find. Car enthusiasts say GM rated the vehicle’s V8 engine at 430 horsepower, but that its true potential was about 560 horsepower.

James Sandoro, founder of the Buffalo Transportation/Pierce-Arrow Museum, says the L88’s astonishing sale price is a testament to what was under the hood from the GM Tonawanda plant. “It’s a worldwide thing now, and everybody’s going to be talking about it,” he said.

Mecum says the auctioned vehicle’s original owner, Jim Elmer of Portland, Ore., took it on the drag racing circuit and won the NHRA A/Sports Nationals title in Indianapolis in 1967. The car’s most recent owner, Buddy Herin, acquired the vehicle in 1998. Mecum did not disclose the identity of the car’s new owner.

I'd love to see them build a smallblock V8 for my vette.... I read about the open house but not sure they do tours. The Corvette assembly plant in KY has tours, one of which is a buyers tour where you get to see your car go through the line - guys have reported getting to sign parts of the car, meet the workers and start the car for the first time... very cool stuff.

Spent 4th of July in Detroit (another story) and toured the Ford Rouge plant - I think it's two shifts of 800 make F150s (all to order, none for inventory) - ex workers give the tour, good stuff, they said they are bringing the frame in-house shortly and moving to aluminum.....

It's sad what Detroit has come to

The Temptations movie (1998) showcases how vibrant Detroit used to be before Globalism destroyed it, along with much of the rest of the USA.

Bob Seger Makin' Thunderbirds sums up back then and now!

Back then.... we were young and proud and we were making Thunderbirds!!!....
Now sadly, today kids are flipping burgers or stocking shelves at Wall Mart or Home Depot......:(

The Decline over one US Generation is truly SHOCKING!!!....
