I've grown tired of my current 5 year old BlackBerry. Now I've looked at all the options, iPhone, Android and the new BB Z10. I know lots of people who have each type and they all like them but the reason I'm thinking of the Z10 is partly due to familiarity and the other is it has a bunch of features I like.

I'm not an "Apps" guy so it doesn't matter that iPhone or Androids have more. I think I have 5 apps that I use and they're available on every platform. I like the the fact that you can replace the battery in case you're not near a power source, upgrade memory for cheap, it has a mini HDMI output and you can upgrade the memory for next to nothing. I also like the keypad which my friends who've got them rave about. Some have switched from iPhone and find it far superior. It also has a bit larger screen.

I'm not one for buying into the absolute latest technology so I think the Z10 might be just the phone for me. Besides, I hear if you do a backup of your old BB, it's a simple restore to the Z10 and all your info is in the right place.

Am I an idiot?

Sounds like you use your device just for communication. Voice, SMS, BBM, Email, Facebook, Twitter.

If that's accurate, I'd get a Q10.

I looked at the Q10 but I like the idea of a larger screen as I do like to browse the net and go on Facebook, check out photos etc. as well.

Fair enough. Z10 it is! Just make sure you don't break the bank. You never know what's going to happen to RIM these days.

Personally, I'd go with a Nexus 4 for $250 from Google Play online.

I forgot to mention I also use my phone for both personal and work emails, about 75-100 a day. As for the price, I'm due for a free upgrade on a 2 year contract so that's a non issue. I'm guessing BlackBerry will be around for at least a couple more years. lol

In their current form, I doubt it. That said, doesn't really matter as it will be supported for a couple of years (more really) anyway.

I've not used a blackberry in many years but when I did their calendar/contacts were very rudimentary, I'm sure that's been updated but that's another reason to move to an Android/Apple duopoly platform.

Here's a comparison:
My 4.5 years old BB died 3 months ago and I picked up a Q10. Of course, there was a big speed difference between the 2 phones. The camera takes great quality pics. The sales person at telus transferred all my info over in a few minutes. I dropped $150 on a 3 year plan but it's a whole lot cheaper now. Also, I found the build quality quite nice.

Not really into apps myself. I've only downloaded one app.

Watched a few videos on it. Great quality as well.

Good to hear. The only apps I want are the Flashlight, Shazam, QR Reader, AccuWeather and Score Mobile which are all available for my current BB so I'm sure they're available for the Z10.

Like I said, everyone I know who has the new Z10 loves it. Some were previous BB users but others have switched from iPhones/Androids.

The Z10 is a great phone. I came from using a BB Bold and iPod Touch/iPad & BB Playbook so it was straightforward to figure out the Z10.

Double check to be sure. I know a few apps took awhile to move from BB7 to BB10. And some are missing functionality. BeBuzz comes to mind.

There are a couple of flashlight apps. The score is there too. Shazam is not available for the Q10 but I believe it is for the Z10. The others I'm not sure.

At telus, there's a 14 day refund or exchange policy. So if you buy it and don't like it, you can go with something else.

From BBWorld on Z10:
QR reader->yes, multiple versions
Flashlight-> yes, multiple versions
Shazam-> no (at least not with that spelling)
AccuWeather-> yes
Score-> yes

I know, pretty sad eh? lol... But seriously, I know iOS has upwards of a million apps but how many can one really use? So many are just toys. Maybe if I was 20 yes, but I can get by without having hundreds of apps. iPhone user make such a big deal out of them. :confused:

Got the Z10 in February and it's a great phone. Far superior to the Iphone in speed and business functionality. Screen is bigger and sharper, camera is better and the browser is faster. You can have a seperate work and personal profile and you can have multiple apps open at one time. The saying is dead on, if you want a tool get a Blackberry, if you want a toy, get an Iphone. The slagging from the fanboys is really funny because everyone I know with an Iphone who has checked out my Z10 agree it is superior.

You like it that much, cool. I'm pretty much ready to bite the bullet.

BB10>Windows>iOS>Android

IMO
Not in the real world, if you look at mobile web usage:

Smartphone share would swap the iOS and Android shares, Windows and BB10 are irrelevant.
