Curious as to the progress of the last few years' prospects: Rielly, Biggs, Percy, McKegg, and wondering if D'Amigo will ever make the move to the next level. Wonder if Colborne will be able to stick with the team. Really hope that Kadri and Franson get signed before camp starts.

Rielly, from what I understand, is doing fine. He will have to go back to junior if he does not make the Leafs. Hockey needs some of those 'exception status' clauses for jr to AHL 19 yr olds.
Biggs and Percy are edging closer to NHL.
McKegg, I get the feeling, is easing into that 'never quite good enough for the NHL' territory.
If D'Amigo ever makes it, it will be icing on the cake.
Leafs could use a young center like Colborne. I think he needs a good long look in the NHL regular season.

They are all still in their early 20s. Anything can happen.

Franson, I hear, is ready to sign for one year.
Kadri is supposedly trying to be accommodating. We will see.

Interesting comments from Kessel last week when he stated he will not talk contract until the up coming season is over. The Leafs are going to have to try and figure out if he wants to resign or leave as a free agent. I think he's going to leave, he would much rather play in the States and the fact he won't even say whether he would consider staying speaks volumes.

100% pure speculation on your part
How in the world can you say with any certainty if he thinking about leaving

Better to list his options , rather than guessing at what he is thinking and implying it as a fact

Not so, an interview in last weeks Sun sports, he did an interview while attending a leaf charity golf tournament, he stated in the interview he will not talk contract until this season is over and wouldn't comment on staying other than "it's been enjoyable since I've been here" Yes it's the Sun's reporter speaking but I have no reason to not to believe that's what Kessel said in the interview.

The story and interview was done by Rob Longley and appeared in the Sun sports on Aug. 27th. It's title was "Kessel still unsure about future with Maple Leafs".

So where in the article did Kessel say he's leaving?

Seems like he wants to concentrate on playing well this season and not be distracted by contract talks... then he will eventually let his agent do the talking about resigning....
Nothing about leaving for the States....

Paul Ranger is an interesting signing....

He might be a pleasant surprise...

Played very well last year in the AHL...

Kessel leaving is just my opinion, he's American and really doesn't like the spotlight too much which is what he's under all the time. I'm just betting he would rather continue his career elsewhere. Time will tell whether my prediction is true. I'm betting he goes to Detroit.

We will get back to this next summer when free agency starts. I stand by my prediction.
You may end out being right, but it is still just speculation at this point.

If Kessel has any intentions of staying in Toronto he would be talking extension. It's his last year of his contract and it will be his first crack at being a free agent. The fact he won't talk contract till after the season means he wants to test the market, which is bad for the Leafs as other clubs will no doubt bid him up around $7 or $8 million a season, especially if he has a great year. I don't think the buds stand a chance of re signing him.

Kessel was a free agent when he came to Toronto.

For the Leafs side ... If they don't sign Kessel then they have 6 plus million to offer another free Agent and in a sense it would be like a trade .. Kessel can go out,and get injuried seriously in even preseason ... That is quite the risk Kessel is taking .
