Let Johnson go at the end of the year and trade Arencibia. The money they save from those two will get Brian McCann who is a free agent at the end of the season. One of the best all round catchers in the game. He would solve the catcher issue for years to come.

Arencibia is only (only) making $505,600 this year, he is headed for his 1st arbitration contract this offseason
In that J.J. is off the books after this season, there's really not a lot of money saved to go toward McCann.
The Blue Jays have 13 players signed for 2014, $119,277,800 in payroll already. That includes $7,750,000 for RiRo.

Go after him anyways.

44 games to go...

Now, if the BJ's can go 38 and 6 the rest of the way they will probably get a Wild Card spot. :biggrin1:

This season is turning out worse than a horrible nightmare... every one is taking turns giving games away... makes me wonder who/what they will have to build on next year!

And, yes, I am even more convinced that Gibbons is a big part of this fiasco. As I have said before, he may be a nice guy but he is a horrible manager.

Perry
Instead, can we start counting down the magic numbers for them to miss this year playoffs?

The trade deadline was July 31. How does this work?

The non-waiver trade deadline is end of July, if players have passed through waivers, they can still be moved in August.

I was a little surprised that they dealt him, as he had started to play a little better towards the end and the club seemed to be willing to work with him.

Here
I don't think Bonifacio got a fair shake here... he didn't get the kind of playing time he needs to develop his talents.

OTOH, the BJ's needed much more from him because they had become rather desperate for good, well developed talent and at $2.6 million and arbitration eligible this year he was not a keeper... I wonder who the BJ's will get back, perhaps someone on their active roster now?

I liked his speed. I hope he gets playing time in KC and that he does well.

The Jays can't roll snake eyes forever, eventually their luck will turn. Who knows what next year will be like, and we still have Mr Bobble Head.

Bust a move people!

I totally-agree.

The Jays put him in a bad position from the get-go.

I hope he does well in Kansas.

I agree he needed more playing time. I believe it should be at the AAA level. He doesn't have a position and didn't show anything here to indicate he deserved one. He needs to learn fundamentals. His bat was at best suspect. His bunts were a joke. His arm inaccurate. He does have speed and he needs to learn how and when to use it.
KC must see something there although they did not give up much to get him.

It was a nice win by the Jays to-night, but win or lose, every game now is meaningless. On the other hand, we could kill the Red Sox and Ferrell's chances of finishing first.

Not meaningless, all I want is for them to finish ahead of the Yankees. To much to ask?

Jays win 2 out of 3 from Boston.
Kept waiting for Burhle to get knocked out but he hung in there. Sure did not have his best stuff last night but got the job done!
