I don't think Davis is the answer. He has a weak arm for the field(but yes speed). Not sure if his hitting will stand up for the year. And yes I know the havoc he creates on the bases. If I thought he could hit .280 with a fair amount of walks I'd consider batting him leadoff and Reyes 2nd.
Reyes is going to be sooooo special next year when we have him for the year. He alone will be worth a figure at least 100 runs. In differential(more generated and less given up) for the Jays. Think about that!
I have always liked me some Rajai! I think he is best suited as a 4th outfielder though. A great 4th outfielder, no doubt. And hopefully the Jays do re-sign him.
Can someone come up with the Jays new lineup for 2014? I can think of subtraction from today's lineups but I can't think of addition to the team in 2014. For example, Melky is gone. So is Johnson,possibly Arencibia and even Lind. Obtain either a second base or third base man is a must I think. With a new 3rd base guy you might like to make lawrie into a permanent second base man.

He's under contract for 2014... and who would want to trade for him right now? And at 29 (next week) he is still young and can recover from what are not major injuries over the off-season. I think he'll be back...
Also, I think JJ may be invited to Spring training on a minor league contract. I doubt any one will offer him anything better unless he has a miraculous recovery over the next two months.

The great mystery is always whether injuries have impacted Dickey, JJ and Melke this year and to what extent. Are these guys just done or can they rebound?
I agree that a minor league contract for JJ is a good idea; but presumably a NL club will offer the same deal - or slightly better - and he will return to less competitive pastures.
Re Rajai - There's only 1 way to find out if he can hit decently for an entire season. Run him out every day until October.
I think that is what should happen to JJ but my gut says a NL GM will offer him a contract.
Melky may have to be moved as his legs don't seem to like the turf , either that or he may need the stuff he had last year to function.

Just checked Melke's career numbers. Actually, his average has always been about where it is right now, except the couple of years he was juicing. Historically he has hit for more power. But essentially a better than average journeyman and no superstar.

I saw him play so many times for the Yankees and got the impression that he was something special... not superstar, but several notches above average.
I was not surprised to see him doing well with the Giants; I guess we now know why.
Nevertheless I am surprised that his overall stats are, relatively speaking, so unremarkable.

At this point JJ wil receive several camp offers and maybe a few low ball offers unless he turns it around somehow. The will not be any layalty. He will go where he has the best chance on a one year deal to make the rotation and get some wins. Either he turns it around, goes to the bullpen or is out of baseball.
He wants that last big contract. The 5 year multi-million one. And that's what will drive him.
Melky need s be shut down as well. Check out the knees.
Even if JJ has an excellent season next year, the chances of him EVER getting that 5-year deal may have just gone up in the smoke - or smog - of an LA evening. No manager in MLB will want to roll the dice on how much gas this guy will ever have left in his tank after this year. I think it's gonna be 1-year (at the most 2-year) deals for him.
