Ok lets see we've got a gas tax , we have a tire tax., we have an ac. tax, we pay tax on top of tax on top of tax for booze, We pay PST, GST, and income tax$10 per hour poon tax would do the trick (hehe)
that's the whole point. one member of the family gives up a bit of free time so the rest can enjoy the good life. so what? it's always been that way. the press for metrolinx says that's a bad thing and for 50billion (plus an unknown amount for graft and over-runs) they'll fix our society. AND they'll throw in "The Big Move will bring 80 per cent of our region's population within two kilometers of rapid transit". WOW!! rapid! not just a bus! of course to afford that i'll have to sell my car and maybe downsize my house. and for now we have to forget about electricity doubling in 10 years and all the infrastructure work that needs to be done.I... With that in mind, my children appear to have a better quality of life living in the Burbs whilst Daddy rots in his car.
You're not going to like the answer because the answer is No, you're not.Aren't we paying too much tax already?
I thought that if you add ALL the taxes we pay, that our jurisdiction is one of the most taxed in the world. You're not going to like the answer because the answer is No, you're not.
Tax rates have been kept artificially low so as to not piss off voters and this has gone on so long that the system is breaking as a result. Has inflation stopped? You can't keep up with inflation with no tax increases year after year.
Chickens coming home to roost...
You are a nice trusting tax payer that politicians love. They can fuck you in the ass right up to the hilt after promising just top put the head in for a good cause and yet later drop another coin on the ground telling you this time it will be different - and you go for it !As long as they use the money as ADDITIONAL budget for public transit, I'm all for it.
By that I mean the existing budget to Metrolinx does not change and that this "new money" gets added to the infrastructure budget..

What is the optimum tax rate that everyone should be paying - 50% of their annual income, 75%, 90% or maybe 100%? There comes a point at which taxes
destroy the economy not to mention people's lives. Maybe what we should do is simply tax away 100% of everyone's assets. Then the government will own everything, the left wingers will be happy and all government hacks will live happily ever after.
Oh I forget they will lose everything along with the rest of us and be reduced to have not status. Wonder how they would like true equality.
ExactlyMcQuinty had the opportunity to raise the sales tax by 1% back when Harper lowered the GST by that amount. Of course if he had the money back then he would have just given it away to the teachers and public sector unions.
I think they should cut public sector & politician pay / benefits 10-15% across the board, lower the HST and personal income taxes and completely eliminate corp taxesI think they should reduce the HST rate and charge more in income tax. I also think they should have additional tax brackets at the top of the scale.
