The Leafs have been a perennial lost cause for 40 years and a fan's worst nightmare for the last 9 however there are citizens who call themselves "loyal fans" and keep forking out the highest ticket prices in the league to watch a real life bad dream.
When they finally make the playoffs the owners (MLSE) jack the seat prices by ........75%!!! and those same fans like lemings rush the ticket office with a smile and no apparent resentment towards the owners for treating them like absolute suckers.
How do they look in the mirror and feel good about the face looking back at them instead of smashing down the ticket windows?

This is the reason I stop watching hockey long time ago. I can take my kids to a beisball, basketball or soccer game for a fraction of the price.

Good question as to why I care..... In truth, I don't care because it is not my money they are spending.
The confusing part is why hockey fans dont get offended when they are taken for granted, ripped off and treated with blatant disrepect.

The same reason that some people think a certain girl looks great and others think she's ordinary. The same reason some people think a particular car is a waste of money and others will swear by it.

Different people have different value systems and different tastes. As Sly Stone said "Different strokes for different folks". As long as no one is imposing their values on us, they are entitled to their opinions on these matters and we have no right to tell them they are wrong.

There's always validity in telling someone that they're being lied to. That they're being deceived and duped. That they should not hold out for the promise of a false hope. That the willing dysfunction displayed is what is feeding the abuse thrust upon them.

Any value system anywhere does not give deceit and abuse of goodwill merit. There is no saying that Leaf fan is 'right or wrong'. What is blatantly obvious is that the fans are being lied to and then abused (check out ticket prices and TV rights for playoffs) again and again.

This is what the franchise (and the rest of the NHL) is dependent on. So long as it continues, don't ever, ever expect a hockey championship in Toronto.

The Toronto Hockey franchise known as the Leafs is an evil, calculating, manipulative corporate machine that will abuse the goodwill of their fan base at any chance they get. They just proved it once again, loudly and clearly.

Leaf fans will desperately spin and reshape any excuse to find validity and acceptance. This is exactly what perpetuates the problem and what the franchise is depending on.

I second that. I should not have to spend a week or more of pay to take the kids and the girl to a game with decent seats

And I repeat, why do you care ? Why waste your time on the Leafs ? To take this cheap shot ?

I went by a restaurant which serves very over priced meals. You cannot get a seat. Go figure.
There are a lot of 'over priced' events everywhere that sell out. To each his/her own. What is your point ? Do you even have one ?

You are kind of stupid. That much is clear. Too bad for you and yours.
No one lied to me or feed me anything I did not totally understand. I follow hockey and I can read and understand how the standings work .... for the past 10 seasons.
I can understand how an idiot such as yourself can miss this because you do not get it.

After repeating yourself with the 'lied to' thing you got goofy. It was slightly amusing.

why do some ppl pay hundreds of thousands for a car when there are 10k options that can take you from point A to b?

why would people eat $100 steak when you can have your fill with mac n cheese?

why do ppl on christmas eve brave the cold for hours on end just to 'celebrate' for the 5 minutes and then freeze their butts off spending the next 2 hrs trying to get home?

it's because what is not worth it to you might be worth it to others. 75% increase is a total farce but ppl will buy it because it has been 9 years this city has not seen playoff action. to attend the first playoff game will be fun!

plus %s are misleading... if the tickets are 50 bucks.. then you end up paying 85 for it.... more pricy for sure but not crazy outrageous. even at 200 bux a pop... the usual seats i sit in... in my perspective, watching a playoff game and cheering for my fav team is better value than seeing oprah live at 250 bucks a seat. again value is different for all ppl.

but to op's point... i see it more as an optics issue.... MLSE looks just so greedy by doing this.. but c'est la vie...

"Me and mine" stay clear of rich and entitled sports franchises that promise everything to their fans and deliver nothing for decades upon decades. The richest franchise with the biggest fan base deserves to give their fans truth and commitment. A clearer head I could not have.

No one lied to me or feed me anything I did not totally understand. I follow hockey and I can read and understand how the standings work .... for the past 10 seasons. I can understand how an idiot such as yourself can miss this because you do not get it.
Responsibility is reciprocal. The fans are devoted to the franchise, likewise the franchise should be responsible to their fans. This one only abuses of them. As far as me 'not getting it': I played hockey fro 10 years with some guys who even made it to the NHL. Presently, a very good friend of mine has his son on the leaf's roster (obviously I can't say who here) that I carried around on my hip since he was a toddler. I want to see this franchise succeed but they simply are not committed to doing so.

After repeating yourself with the 'lied to' thing you got goofy. It was slightly amusing. Pray tell ... what do Leafs fans not get ?

Everything you said is as expected. If you want to be taken seriously, make sure your comments are worthy of an adult.

The reason they jack the prices are plain and simple, because THEY CAN. They will still have huge demand, just imagine what the price of a ticket will be if they ever made the finals.

Not sure why this seemingly surprises people. They have always always jacked prices for the playoff. Ballard did it, Teachers did it and now Bell/Rogers are doing it. Duuuh.

Now MLSE, not satisfied with ripping off only the fans, have turned on their players.
Historically, every Leaf player got 8 tickets for family and friends to every playoff game.
MLSE has given the members of the 2013 Leafs exactly 2 tickets each.
Even mild mannered Nazim Kadri fired off about this.
Absolutely ridiculous.

It's hard to count since Ottawa seems to make the playoffs every year.

When you're like the Maple Laughs and playoff games only happen once in a generation I guess you have to be greedy about it.

Totally understand how counting over two might be difficult for some.

I appreciate your admission of such.
