yes
yes very easily and is very common. BTW Trucks were typically the first to be tracked. Q. Do you want to track or are you fearing being tracked?

And why would you worry about being tracked in a company car?

Just like a company cell phone, or company computer, you don't shit where you eat, right?

Yes, Company cars can be easily tracked and the tracking device is usually hidden in the dash where you can't easily detect it. Some of the systems are connected to GPS mounted on the dash but that's typically only to push the directions to the driver. The absence of an obvious GPS unit on the dash does not mean the vehicle is not being tracked. The vehicle can be tracked real time on a google map. In addition, the tracking site keeps a detailed travel history with time stamps. The system is also used to detect vehicle movement when the engine is not running and sends alerts to the interested parties.

What others have said - very easily done. I knew someone who was developing and selling such a technology.

Any employer that tries to use that information against an employee without disclosing the fact that the tracking device is there is going to have problems.

Just sayin'...

I drive casual for a courier and the cars are tracked. Every time I accelerate too quickly I hear a beeping sound. Once the boos phoned me (on the company phone and asked where I was. I told him at home having lunch (which I was) but knew that he knew where I was before I answered. Be honest or at least cunning. If you stiop to see an escort tell them you're picking up something personal at a nearby location.

we have one that shows the baby carriage location on a hand held unit, just in case.

These things are easy to use.

not when it is their car and their phone... it is no different than hiring a PI. The company does not have to let you know big brother is watching

Besides... they can keep all than info in their back pocket and find another reason to let you go.
Bingo!

If they want to pay notice, they don't have to give you a reason at all - or they could say that they did not like the colour of your shirt that day. If notice is given, no reason needs to be.

However, if they fire without notice and pay, a reason must be given from what I understand and that may cause a bit of difficulty.

DUDE, it's their freaking car/property!
They have all the right in the world to track where it is 24/7 if they desire. If you are in it then it looks like for a bonus they get to know where you are to, if you are in their car....:eyebrows:

Not my area but I get they will know where you are. So if they want to fire you all they need to do is have Security catch you somewhere inappropriate and then fire you because they saw you there? Or have you followed once they see a pattern?

All they have to do is tell you when the car/vehicle is issued to you that usage is monitored, same as any other piece of Company property. I do this with all of my employee's company cell phones, laptops and cars all the time, as a matter of documentation and due diligence. So long as they have no expectation of privacy, there's NOTHING they can do, I own the phone, the laptop, the car and all of the data and intellectual property. If the employee doesn't want to get fired, they need to keep a pay as you go phone for SP calls/texts, a second laptop for personal stuff and porn and do their pooning in their own car.

The last thing I want is a pic of my logo'ed company car parked in from of a rub and tug.

Actually, the employer/owner does not have to tell you the vehicle is tracked. They can question you on the locations where they've tracked you if the locations are not where your work should have taken you but they cannot use the tracking info in an employee's performance evaluation...at least officially.
