With respect to young muslims in Canada being attracted to extremism, it is alarming to see. There have been instances of the parents being largely secular muslims, professionals, educated, yet for some reason their son or sons are attracted to and ultimately converted to Islamic Extremism. Maybe it's because the young males never felt accepted in Canadian society and they want (like many youths) to belong to something, and to be a part of something larger where they are wanted. Or maybe it's because they view the Islamic Extremists as "tough guys" and they want to be tough guys too, so they get sucked up into the cult of Islamic Extremism. (Young North Americans can get their fix of "tough guy" from the American military, but what if you can't identify with the American military and you still think that tough = respect.)
I've seen more than a few reports in the media of Muslim parents not understanding how their children became consumed by Islamic Extremism. It's confusing to me as well because I figure that Canada is the best country in the world and it offers all of its citizens freedom, security, and the right liberty and why would anyone reject this kind of morality for the kind of morality which is literally the polar opposite.
