So the Rogers continues to dump money in an outdated stadium. They are apparently going to put real grass in there at some point too.

Don't think they realize, doesn't matter how much you do it, it's the structer/design itself that has no atmoshpere or appeal.

Guess my dream of us ever getting a proper baseball stadium will never come true...lol.

Get a winning team with 40-50,000 fans and it will have plenty of atmosphere.

Coincidence that it stopped having atmosphere in the mid-90's after they'd become a losing team. Never heard anyone complain about the dome 'til they started losing.

I did last Friday. Atlantis was packed. MDS was pretty full. Loco was packed. MI was packed by midnight.

Your waaaay wrong on this. Even when they had those winning teams in the early 90's the place had no atmoshpere. Not sure how old you are but I'm guessing pretty young and must have never experienced what it was like to sit in the left field bleechers and old exibition stadium. Being in those bleechers was more fun than the game itself half the time. As soon as they movied into the (then called skydome) people were complaining about the lack of atmosphere. Again, maybe your too young to remember but Dave Windfield had to ask the fans to make some noise the place was so bloody quiet. Big crowds don't necessarily - fun atmoshpere.

Maybe you're in a situation where the Ex was so long ago, you were more impressionable then and the passing of time makes an event or place seem much greater than it was.

As someone who was around pre-dome, I can assure you that playing baseball in Toronto in the early spring and even the late fall can be a nightmare. You see, this thing called slush and snow made it a real drag and people were screaming for a domed stadium.

Now you don't like it because of the atmosphere?

Yes the Ex was dump, but had a blast watching baseball there in the cheap left field bleechers. That place was absolutely rockin in the mid to late 80's, as soon as they moved into the dome is when it got quiet even with 52,000 a game.

I don't know, maybe it was the price of the cheap tickets at the Ex and once all the suits took over, it was just a different crowd.

That's exactly the problem with Torontonians, bunch of pompous prima donnas that can handle a little bad weather. No wonder the NFL woudn't give us a team.

Shack is right. Exhibition Stadium was called Excrement Stadium.

The Rogers Centre ain't no Wrigley Field or Tiger Stadium, but it serves its purpose.

Rogers got it for cheap. They can afford to dump more money into it.

I remember I used to love to go to Blue Jays games at exhibition statdium as a kid, I think my parents always got the cheap seats via dominion or A&P , what I loved about it wasn't the stadium though, what makes those games a little better to see than those as the Dome, is when the game is over at the Dome, it's over, you go home, but when a game was over at the stadium, was always followed by a couple hours at either Ontario Place or the Ex itself, because Blue jays tickets meant free admission to that as well.

If I have good seats and it's a good game and the fans are up for the game, then it's enjoyable.

I don't find the actual physical facility that huge of a factor to my overall enjoyment (unless the seats are uncomfortable/cramped or there's an obstructed view).

Anyone serious would build a stadium like Milwaukee or Houston, a domed, single-purpose stadium. But who's gonna pony up the $400+million to throw it up? And where to build it? The smart move would be to Downsview Park, start a new "Stadium neighbourhood" like they did in Philadelphia. At the same time, build a decent football stadium. One sized right for the Argos, with expansion possibilities for the day the NFL loses its mind and gives Toronto a team.

Oriole Park is gorgeous, but if your team is losing and no one's there, you start to question why you're there. Unless you root for the visitors. Saw the Jays play 3 there 2 summers ago, sat in the same section all 3 games (the usher asked me on the sunday if me and the SO were there for the weekend). Eutaw st. is a hive of activity before game time. Try the Pit Beef!

Toronto will have a baseball only park of any design you like .. right after you fork over $600 million or so.
