The criminal has been named...let's hope they catch before he kills someone next time.

TORONTO — Toronto police have identified and charged the man wanted in what appears to have been an unprovoked stabbing of a 45-year-old man on a subway train Wednesday evening.

Cassim Celani Cummings, 20, faces several charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault in relation to the incident, which took place as he was riding the Yonge Line, near Davisville station.

He has yet to be arrested.

Mr. Cummings is also accused of violating his probation. Police released surveillance photos of the suspect on Thursday morning in an attempt to identify him.

Police warn that Mr. Cummings is armed and dangerous and should not be approached by anyone who locates him.

The attack took place at about 10:20 p.m., police said. A passenger activated the alarm and emergency crews met the train at Davisville station. The suspect exited the train and ran away.

There was no significant interaction between the accused and the victim before the stabbing, said Const. Tony Vella.

“The suspect was approaching [different] people on the train,” he said. “Then he went up to [the victim] and stabbed him.”

The victim is expected to survive.

At the time of the incident, Mr. Cummings was wearing a black toque, black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Your post title makes you sound a tad racist. Did you need to point out that the suspect was black or could it have read "Good samaritan from Barrie stabbed on the TTC"?

Your example could be another way of phrasing it, seeing as though the pictures speak louder than words...I'll keep it mind for the next crime thread or attack on an innocent good samaritan

The victim was not stabbed, he had his throat cut, but it was not a fatal wound.

he didn't come off racist, he came off as a guy saying what happened.

Also, a bit sexist. Why say "guy"? Can't you say "person"? "Stabbed by a person" sound much more politically correct.

why did he have to point out barrie and that it happened on the ttc. that is negative towards those as well. he should have just said "someone stabbed someone at some point for unknown reason somewhere"

I also feel this discriminates against knife owners, he could have used any weapon.

Can we say "hurt"?

So how about this headline:

"Somebody hurt someone somewhere today"

Nothing racist until YOU viewed it in that light. Purely descriptive.

Why is it a bit racist . The guy IS BLACK . Like WTF . The news reported that he was harassing people . Then he slit the victims throat . What's wrong with mentioning where the victim was from ? Poor guy comes down to the big city and look what happens to him .

It's all on tape . There were witnesses . That piece of garbage tried to kill someone . How would you like it if it was you or someone in your family that was attacked ? . I'll bet you wouldn't care then that the colour of his skin was mentioned .

Again the , the attempted murder was BLACK . Maybe he should have had a paper bag over his head so people couldn't tell what colour he is or maybe he should have slit his own throat instead of trying to kill someone else . That would have been a better option .

hey hows that probation system working out? every time someone stabs/shoots someone in this city they've been on probation or were "prohibited" from carrying weapons

Why call him a Good Samaritan? The guy from Barrie was apparently just minding his own business when he was knifed. A Good Samaritan is someone who comes to the aid of a stranger, often after others have passed by without stopping to help. At least, that's the Bible story.

I'm surprised that PC spokespersons have allowed the reputation of Samaritans to be besmirched for centuries by the term Good Samaritan, as it implies that Samaritans in general aren't good, and that one guy was an exception. Watch the shit hit the fan if you refer to a Native Canadian as The sober Indian.

Maybe because there are so few Samaritans, and they probably don't read English, are the reasons why no one has taken offense to the term on their behalf.
