OK I think I want a new lap top before I leave the US.

I have a HP I7 and really like the speed. Not so happy with the broken hinge. Mostly used for watching movies o the home network and homework and playing in terb?

Any opinions on what is best? I am thinking of a Windows 8 with a touch screen :)

Dont you know that all the rich people like her, have her nannys to take care of her kid. That way it frees up more of her time to hang out on terb all day:)

There is some rule that you cannot have a baby and a laptop? Riley, six weeks is considered the normal length of "disability" leave following delivery. The average mom can spend 40 hours a week at work. I do not work. I am also blessed with a 'stay at home' dad who insists on doing burping and racking, a live in mom of my own who has turned in a grand mother that takes cuddling and teaching him mandarin very seriously, and a nanny who is great with diaper duty etc.

I am pretty certain I can afford the time I spend on my laptop. But thanks for worrying it is sweet/

Well most women in North America start working after week 6. Not working also frees up lots of time.

Don't want to get into whatever is going on in here but I've never had any issues with Dell laptops. They may cost a bit more (50-100) but each one has lasted well over 7-8 years without any issues. Some are still in use after 10+ years running older operating systems (win xp & Linux).

Any laptop these days would be suitable for watching movies, home applications, and web browsing. These are not resource intensive operations.

I'm a big fan of Asus, own 4 of their laptops.. one is rarely ever turned off and never a hiccup. They have a complete line of multimedia laptop and newer touch screen enabled ones you may want to look into.

Owned a couple HP's years ago was not happy with the build quality ie keyboard buttons falling off, indicator lights not working, dead batteries etc.

Some people also have something called "friends" in their life they can ask about these items rather than having to rely on random anonymous posters on the Toronto Escort Review Board for technology advice!

I could not stand more rain so here we are doing a few errands in Florida. Soon off the Mardi Gras week. For the record, our bucket got transported to here. We flew :)

Oh I have lots of friends, both my own and ours. I can get all kinds of advice about all kinds of things just a phone call away. Sadly none are into technology not related to their work. Loki is not much help, he likes desk tops and has little interest or knowledge about laptops :)

People on the other board I visit are more into great food and nice moorings than windows.

People here seem to be more into laptops so I decided to try here.

I've heard great things about ASUS while I was researching laptops for my daughter. I ended up finding a great deal with Toshiba a few years back and purchased that instead but it was down to ASUS or Toshiba. For work Dell is the corporate supplier we have and they are also reliable. If I were to buy a new laptop for myself I would choose ASUS. HP is at the bottom of my list from the stories I've hear from many friends and family who have had issues with their HP computers/laptops.

Get a MacBook Pro. Costs more than run-of-the-mill laptops, but you can afford the best. Like you, worth it's weight in gold.
