Still 100% fact-free. Magna opened the vault, did they? And the concessions and rollback the autoworkers took to bailout GM and Chrysler were "opening the vault" as well? Or is that "ONLY" of yours as meaningless as your 'fact'.

Yeah McGuinty and the feds really put the boots to the GM workers by completely bailing out their under funded pension with public money. When your RRSP runs out, why don't you go ask the Feds if they will bail you out... or ask the Nortel workers why they got screwed and the GM workers got bailed......concessions my ASS!!! I guess the Nortel workers we unlucky enough to not have the Finance Minister as their MP.... shame that... and they say votes don't matter....

Relative to….

If I remember right, teachers had a pay freeze under Rae and Harris. Under McG they got raises a little above inflation (and comparable with everyone else in the public sector). Doesn't sound so vault like.
So the Conservatives and even the NDP froze their "salary", but the Libs gave them a raise that was more than inflation, plus other perks that also increased their cost to the government !!!

In comparison,...what would you call that ??

I think the main reason for picking a fight with the teachers was to divert attention from all his other screwups - the latest being the gas plant fiasco. With the added bonus of appearing to be tough with the unions. Seems to have worked so far...

Teaches are paid a fiar wage in this province for their education 2 degrees
Teachers are paid…, …a fair wage (a salary by most standards, actually), "…2 degrees" is a temperature report, unconnected with the preceding sentence, which needed a period. If it was intended to refer to scholarly degrees, the numeral shouldn't have been used, and additional connective words or punctuation, or both were needed to make any coherent sense of the two words.

A post about education should show the readers that the writer knows what that is. If it says anything, this one is evidence that Ontario eduction has been underfunded. Or faces a hopeless task.

Because they always want more,... to do less !!!

FAST
Of course union workers are unique among humans in wanting more. If only they could follow the example of their employers and constantly lower their own expectations and give more away to others.

Just as long as they don't get to be as bad on the assembly line as their managers are at profit and loss accounting.

I agree , so why are they protesting again?
This has to do with not getting less and not losing democratic voices, not getting more for teachers.
The issues are fairly substantial, McGuinty went too far with the legislation.

Dalton McGuinty said in his media meeting today that teacher salaries have gone from $43,000 to $83,000 in 7 years. Sounds like they are doing really well for themselves.

Dalton McGuinty said that the student population has DECREASED 6% while the teacher pouplation has INCREASED 10%. Not bad, eh?

Let's be blunt, we could pay teachers $6 million a year (like hockey players) and they will still demand more, more, more.

Remember that our 'dear' premier is a pathological liar. And, not a bright one, at that.

It all depends on where a teacher is on the salary grid and what the fuck McGuinty is comparing. For example, look at the collective agreement for OSSTF.

Where is he pulling these numbers from? What is reference? His ass?

The fact that student enrolment was significantly dropping while the cost of education was significantly increasing didn't seem to bother McGuinty for most of the nine years he was premier. It has only been in the past few months that he seems troubled by his own government's record of spending.

Give me a break.

Of course you and Rockslinger are entirely ignoring the effect of deliberately reducing class sizes—generally considered a good thing—has on such numbers. Whether you achieve better ratios by retaining teachers as enrollment shrinks, or by new hires, or by some of each it will skew the numbers because it will be more expensive.

So is owning a car compared to transit. But I imagine you and Rocky would both say the extra cost gives me what I want. The over-populated classrooms McG inherited after the mindless cost-cutting and tax-cutting that packed them sure weren't giving us what we wanted.

BTW: Mf-2, as a newspaper reader (and borderline Dalton-obsessive) you might enjoy today's column by Rick Salutin. Nothing on the political front, but intriguing to read a playwright's take on the drama. You do have to wonder the hows and whys of the lame-duck with nothing left to lose just walking away instead of sitting down and at last doing and saying stuff that politics makes impossible for anyone with a future in it.

The failure of Mcguinty was his ridiculous infatuation with universality. The 10% discount on Hydro should have been means tested and families that needed assistance for all day kinder er daycare should have received help based upon need.
Instead by extending these programs with borrowed money he puts everything at risk. Further the wages and pension contributions teachers receive will be clawed back whether by legislation or negotiation not because of ideology but because the province is broke and in a global economy tax increases will only force business to leave.

Fact,...the ONLY way you get labour peace with the union,...is to "open the vault", which is exactly what they did.
Problem is now,…its empty !!!

FAST
Problem is that Dalton doesn't think the vault is empty. Just this week he gave Civil Servant Managers huge annual bonuses for still occupying their desk at Dec 1st. No performance required - just be employed at the beginning of December. Therefore the vault cannot be EMPTY!

I don't think the teacher's issue has anything to do with salaries or costs. The Durham High School teachers, among others, negotiated contracts in November with their boards that included a two year salary freeze. I understand that Durham's contract actually included COST REDUCTIONS by changing the way some teachers are deployed but Broten REJECTED a cost saving contract because she prefers to impose her contract. WHY????? Broten refuses to answer.

You should read Bill 115 that says that the courts DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to rule on the legality or consuntutionality of government legislation. Perhaps you may be more concerned when this government passes legislation that steals your assets and says you have no recourse to the courts. Bill 115 could be the first step on a long slippery slope that says bye bye to democracy in Ontario.

I could have sworn that McG was touting reduced class sizes as HIS contribution to education. Now he uses it to blame teachers. Just another example of political speak.

I think he is saying that teacher "A" could be making $43,000 in year "X",...and end up making $83,000 7 years later, due to automatic increases,...wether the teacher performed or not.

I don't believe that such a raise could happen, at least if the teacher stays at the same spot on the grid. However, if it is true what he says, why didin't he address the issue during his nine years in power as the premier, instead of bringing it up now? Sounds like negligence on his part, no?
