Knuckleballers have a longer shelf life though, plus pitching in a dome stadium will also help. Just have to make sure we have a catcher who can actually catch Dickey!
Dickey does throw harder than other knucklers. His knuckler is somewhere around 77-80 mph. Not sure if that has any effects or not.

Part of the rumoured deal is getting Thole from the mets, who does catch for Dickey.

Why I like the "pending" Dickey trade...

A strong farm system addresses two needs, the obvious one is providing the building blocks for the mother team, and the other is stockpiling assets for trading purposes.

I believe that AA’s plan has been focused on the latter.

Since he came into the role his mandate was to re-build a scouting staff depleted by the previous regimes and re-stock the minor league system with talent.

During his tenure he has made some really shrewd trades by picking up players who had “worn out their welcome” with other teams, and he has also taken advantage of acquiring supplemental draft picks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Anthopoulos

He has waited patiently for the opportunity to play his card – trading of stockpiled assets – to put together a team ready to make bona-fide run for the World Series.

At the beginning of the 2011 season the Jays had promise, but they were a few pieces short of being a contending team. Most observers noted the potential, but realized that for the Jays to compete; a lot of things would need to come together. A promising spring and early season results gave hope, but it takes a full season to win. But it was also an opportunity for the players to learn what it takes to win over a full season.

The deal with Marlins opened the floodgates and opportunity/time to work with the stockpiled assets. The Cabrera signing was a stroke of genius as he got a great player whose value was tarnished due to the drug elated suspension. If the Dickey deal comes through, they have a starting staff that can take them to the World Series (throwing a knuckle-baller in the mix in a 3-4 game series sometimes throws the opposing batters timing off for the next pitcher).

There are some questions with the bullpen – Can Jansen repeat his performance of last year? But AA did pick up some late season acquisitions, not to mention that Santos should be returning.

AA has sent a positive message to the existing players. I feel confident that Gibbons has the managerial skills to get the required performance expectations out of the players.

Iwould like to see them sign Lyon, though he did an excellent job at seasons end. He may be more willing to sign with the thought of being on a team with a shot at the big one. They also need to coax Oliver back for another season. I think guys will be call AA wanting to play on this team.

See you at the Dome opening day. Never made the opener when I lived in Toronto but I booked my tickets for this year.

Here
Well, with some room for minor changes and adjustments -- and, of course, what happens at Spring Training -- here's what the BJ's are going to look like fo 2013:

Catchers: Arencibia, Thole

First: Encarnacion

Second: Izturis/Bonifacio

Third: Lawrie

Short: Reyes

Center: Rasmus

Right: Bautista

Left: Cabrera

DH: Cooper/Lind

Bench: Davis, Izturis/Bonifacio, Cooper/Lind

Ace: Johnson

Second: Dickey

Third: Morrow

Fourth: Buehrle

Fifth: Romero

Set up & Closer: Santos, Janssen

Right Handers: Delabar, Lincoln

Left Handers: Loup, Happ, Oliver

Well, I may even consider once again the season's tickets I used to share many years ago.

Ace: Johnson

Fourth: Buehrle

Fifth: Romero
Romero goes from ace to 5th. I'd read Dickey would be the opening day starter.

Not sure about Buehrle, but of the other 4, 3 were opening day starters last year.

Whether they have a great year or not you gotta give AA a bunch of credit for building a team, that if nothing else, is the talk of the baseball world and has the city salivating for the season to begin. The buzz we felt last year was nothing compared to what it will be like this year. For sure increased attendance and sponsor interest will offset some of the extra expenditures.

Also, the most credit again, goes to our GM, for the best move of the franchise since the early 90's. Thanks to J.P. Ricciardi for giving young Alex his break. At least he properly evaluated that talent. He also brought in Joey Bats.

Wonder what odds Vegas has us at now?

2b still a question mark. bonafacio isnt a full time 2b.
we can perhaps package bonafacio and lind for a 2b. dh is much easier to get, as anyone can play that pos

One reason why I'm looking forward to next year are the size of the crowds at the games. To state the obvious, Skydome is kinda dead when there's just 18,000 fans attending. The largest crowd I've seen was at Cito's last home game. It might have been about 35,000. Unfortunately I wasn't in Toronto in the early 1990s when they were selling out 50,000 seats every game.

I don't agree.

Izturis is a potenial full time 2nd baseman. And Bonafacio is every manager's wet dream for his versatility and switch hitting.

DH is not a "throw away" position, it is a very important power position and Lind showed signs of returning to his old form during the last few weeks of last season.

Besides, name some affordable 2nd basemen or DH's available... in other words, talk reality not wishy-washy dreaming without regard to who migt be available!

Bonafacio has only played 75 games at 2B in his major league career. He has played mostly 3B or OF. Izturis has played alot of 2B, but he is mostly a backup player with the Angels. I can't say he's an upgrade on offense over Kelly Johnson or Aaron Hill in the past.

I never said DH isn't an important position. It's much easier to fill, because we can sign anybody to fill that role. We can just easily pick a cheap slugger.

2B is a pivotal position, we need our 2B to be able to turn DP's without much problem.

Some affordable
2B:
Some notable cheap gambles could be:
Freddy Sanchez
Placido Polanco
Yes, I agree 2B is not deep, thats why I advocated trading for one.

DH:
Nick Swisher
Carlos Pena
Lance Berkman

Nick Swisher is looking for a 4-5 year contract worth somewhere between $50 & $80 million.
Carlos Pena, signed with Houston Astros
Lance Berkman is injury prone, not a worthwhile investment.

How about Rajai as the DH? He's not your typical DH but I figure you put him in the 9 spot with Reyes leading off and you'd have some serious speed on the basepaths!

I'm sure there is something if you really look for. Similar to how yankees sign people like Andruw Jones, Raul Ibanez, Eric Chavez. Those are the similar cheapies I would like the Jays to explore.

mlbdepth chart already has bonafacio at the 9th hole playing 2B. Having Davis, Bonafacio and Reyes 8, 9, 1 does sound kind of intriguing.

So in fact, not the three players you initially listed?
