Don't Go by Yazoo, (AKA Yaz in the USA) - duo of Vince Clarke, (he wrote most of the songs on the first Depeche Mode album before leaving to form Yazoo), and Alison Moyet - no BBW has ever carried her weight better, and what a voice!

Rhoda & The Special AKA - The Boiler

Rhoda is Rhoda Dakar, former lead singer of the Two Tone all girl group The Bodysnatchers, (after that group split up, some of the members formed The Belle Stars, who had a hit with Sign of the Times). The Special AKA is The Specials in the process of disintegrating. Rhoda wrote the lyrics to the song.

Warning: This song is very intense and disturbing. It's a recounting of a date rape. It's also a great song.

Sorry, I don't know how to post the video but "Cars" by Gary Numan would be my pick. Might have been just before the 80's.

OK - may not entirely New Wave, but damned close, and a truly excellent song from an incredibly underrated band - "Senses Working Overtime" by XTC.

How come they left out the line:

"And buses may skid on black ice".

Coincidentally, my son and I were returning from seeing Joe Bonamassa at Roy Thompson tonight and we listened to this song on his iPod. He remembered it from when he was 4 or 5 years old and I'd put it on a cassette. He liked the counting part----And I've got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 senses....
