A few tidbits after reading lots of articles:

How would B.J. Upton look in left field right about now?

If nothing else, AA has made Toronto much more high profile.

Some analysts are saying agents should not send their players to Toronto because of the bigger tax hit.

Probably the fastest team in the league with Gose, Davis, Reyes, Bonifacio, Lawrie.

The Jays can take their time and not worry about being outbid by any other team for manager. They are the only team without one.

And Rasmus too... if he ever gets going!
Which begs the question...hitting coach? Given Rasmus' upside, it will be an important hire.

Ok, I did a quick and dirty "paper" comparison of the "new" Blue Jay team and the Yankees.

Edge in pitching goes to the Blue Jays. Edge in SS (Jeter), 2B (Cano) and 1B (Textiere) goes to the Yankees.

What happened to Murphy? Did he go with Farrell?
I guess he's not gone but it may depend on if the new manager wants his own guy.

Not sure if I agree with the SS assessment. Don't get me wrong, Jeter is one of the best at his position - at his prime. He is going to be another year older and coming off of ankle surgery. Reyes's batting average and power is equivalent but Reyes has got better speed and probably more athletic at this stage. Heck...let's just call it a tie :)

Wherever I shouldn't be
Unquestionably the Jays are better with this trade, but far from a great, or even good team. If you look at the lineup theres holes and questions aplenty.
C - Arrencibia, Buck - Both decent defensively with some pop. Neither gets on base much.
1B - Encarnacion - Great 2011, is he for real?
2B - Vacant - Jays do not have an everyday ML 2B
3B - Lawrie - Major talent, small sample size, questionable emotional maturity.
SS - Reyes - Very good player, can he stay healthy?
DH - Vacant - See 2B
LF - Vacant - See 2B
CF - Rasmus - See 3B
RF - Bautista - Superstar, but coming off wrist surgery.

You can do this kind of critique of most teams.
After Pedroia Redsox are dodgy
After Cano Yanks are too.
All I'm saying is don't stake your spot on the parade route just yet, opening day is a long way off.

Here
I say Izturis at 2B and Bonifacio/Davis in LF and the Jays are a power LH DH/1B away from being really good.

I think AA will make a further trade for the LH but may wait to see what happens with Lind and Cooper at Spring Training before making any decisions.

I also think that Gose has become untradeable as the back up and future in CF... Rasmus still has a long way to go to prove he belongs.

Blue Jays, Cabrera agree to deal

ESPN is reporting the club has signed free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million contract.

It's been a great week for Blue Jays fans.

We're starting to act like a real major league team.

How many days 'til training camp?

And that's a pretty good price for a guy who was in line to win the batting title. I'm sure they have contractual safeguards built in against possible future drug infractions.

Didn't check the roster but it sure sounds like they'll be top heavy with Latinos.
