Article on attributes of iPad owners.... a bit tongue in cheek I think....

Most Likely iPad Buyer Is a Male, Pet-Owning Gamer (Who May Be a Scientist)

While the iPad is clearly a hit among lots of demographics, from non-reading toddlers to senior citizens, there are still certain sets of people that are more likely to go out and buy one of the Apple tablets. The folks at marketing firm BlueKai have compiled some of that data into a handy infographic.

Among the three characteristics most tied to iPad purchasing are being male, a pet-owner and into video games. Close behind are scientists, travelers (both international and domestic) and, bizarrely, organic food proponents. Perhaps the latter, though, is tied to having the kind of disposable income necessary to purchase a device that, while undeniably fun and useful, likely doesn’t replace any other device.

Of course, as previously mentioned, the tablet’s popularity extends even to female liberal arts majors who don’t care whether their food is processed. Indeed, a recent survey by Nielsen shows that the iPad is tops on the holiday wish lists for kids of all genders and food preferences.

Apple actually swept the top three spots on that list, with the iPod touch and the iPhone being the next most popular wishes among the 6-to-12-year-old set.
As a point of reference, the iPad and iPod touch also topped last year’s survey, so it appears not all kids are getting their first pick of presents. It would seem some are being told they had better get an iJob first.

I'm male, a pet owner but not into video games and do prefer organic, does really liking science count? lol
3 out of 4.

I'll wait and see a little longer which tablet I go for, when and if the "need' arises.
Right now, I'd definitely get a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Although I read Google is working on their own device to compete with Amazon's $200 Fire.

It's great to know that your local Apple Store is so patient with you. Other places would just call mall security and hustle you off the premises.

Actually a few enjoy my repartee over PC things and Apple.
Turned a few onto Linux and they expressed their thanks.

Only a paranoid backwards thinking backwoods type bonehead cultist would call mall security....:eyebrows:

Fanbois are 'funny' peeps....

They're just humouring you and laughing at you behind your back. Much like we do actually.
Well chumps, you can go with that delusion if it helps ease the pain of getting boned by Apple as you live in your iJuice stupor....

For a large glorified iTouch/netbook???

What a bargain!
It will be a huge hit just like the MacBook Air was.....
This quote is the gift that keeps giving....

Apple's US K12 customers snapped up two iPads for every Mac this quarter

By Daniel Eran Dilger

Published: 07:10 PM EST (04:10 PM PST)

Apple's chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer noted in the company's Q2 conference call that US K-12 education customers had purchased twice as many iPads as Macs, despite also setting a new record in Mac sales for the quarter.

Oppenheimer noted that the San Diego school district purchased 10,000 iPads in the quarter, and plans to buy over 15,000 additional iPads in the June quarter for its middle and high school students.

"iPad continues to open doors for new customers with whom Apple previously had no relationship," Oppenheimer stated. "As we enter the K-12 institution buying season, we're hopeful that iPad will be a popular choice."

................................

And then there is this from the earnings call:

Cook added that in its first two years, Apple sold 67 million iPads, noting that it took 24 years to sell that many Macs, five years to sell that many iPods and three years to sell that many iPhones.

You're the delusional chump who thinks that they don't. I used to work computer-related retail (which explains my Linux connection) and we always recognized the fanbois and humor them. Of course, we laugh at them later on.

Well chumps, you can go with that delusion if it helps ease the pain of getting boned by Apple as you live in your iJuice stupor....

Looking to surpass notebook sales in 2016 - troglodytes will not understand

Total Mobile PC Shipments Exceed 800M Units by 2017

Tablet Shipments to Surpass Notebook Shipments in 2016

SANTA CLARA, CALIF., July 3, 2012—Tablet PCs, such as Apple’s iPad, are expected to be the growth driver for the mobile PC market over the next few years. Tablet shipments will surpass notebook shipments in 2016, according to the latest NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report. Overall mobile PC shipments will grow from 347M**units in 2012 to over 809M**units by 2017.

While notebook PC shipments are expected to increase from 208M**units in 2012 to 393M**units by 2017, tablet PC shipments are expected to grow from 121M**units to 416M**units in this period, for a compound annual growth rate of 28%. A key driver for tablet PC growth is adoption in mature markets (including North America, Japan and Western Europe), which will account for 66% of shipments in 2012 and remain in the 60% range throughout the forecast period. Tablet PC shipments into mature markets will grow from 80M**units in 2012 to 254M**units by 2017.

“Consumer preference for mobile computing devices is shifting from notebook to tablet PCs, particularly in mature markets,” said Richard Shim, senior analyst at NPD DisplaySearch. “While the lines between tablet and notebook PCs are blurring, we expect mature markets to be the primary regions for tablet PC adoption. New entrants are tending to launch their initial products in mature markets. Services and infrastructure needed to create compelling new usage models are often better established in mature markets.”

Building upon convenience-oriented features including instant-on capability, long battery life and extreme portability, tablet PCs are expected to evolve in form factor and performance, making them a compelling alternative to notebook PCs. Tablet PCs are expected to incorporate multi-core processors, increasingly stable operating systems, growing app libraries and higher resolution displays.

In addition, notebook PCs are also evolving to meet the challenge from tablet PCs. Thinner form factors, higher resolution displays and touch functionality features are expected to increase. The notebook PC market will remain the largest part of the mobile PC market during the forecast period, accounting for 60% of mobile PC shipments in 2012, declining to 49% by 2017.

The DisplaySearch Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report covers the entire range of mobile PC products shipped worldwide and regionally. With analysis of global and regional brands, the Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report provides an objective, expert view of the market with insight into historical shipments, revenues, forecasts and more. The new Ipad mini is priced at $329 for the 16gb at the Apple store. I thought it would be closer to the Amazon product. Right now it's only $70 less than the bigger ipad. People will still probably buy it but I'd just as soon get a bigger one at that price.

If they were priced identically I'd still get the ipad mini. It does essentially the same thing but easier to carry around. The original version was a bit too big for my liking.

I could see that happening even earlier although maybe the tablet and notebook could blend together under the Windows 8 scenario if it succeeds. I have the an ASUS Prime with the keyboard/battery for traveling but once you start loading magazines on the tablet - wow is it ever sweet ! The problem I have is that when I start working on the computer again, I'm constantly trying to perform functions with my finger on the computer screen instead of the mouse.

I wonder if the power of a notebook uses a detachable thin screen from the keyboard with hard drive/ ports - is it a notebook or tablet ?

Don't really care how this is going to affect Apple's business model and price stock since one I really don't care about the company much and two I don't own the stock. So my comment is on a consumer's stand point.

$329??? What? No way. $250 to $280 probably since the specs are almost identical to the iPad 2. I mean for $70 more I would rather get the iPad 2.

Plus looks like there is going to be that tablet war that is going to benefit us more in functionality and price point wise. I am looking to purchase my first tablet and will be holding out to see other companies to issue their Android and Windows 8 tablets. For me though if Windows 8 tablets can run my PC apps, I would be willing to dish out $500 to purchase a Windows 8 tablet. Dropped by a local Best Buy and was surprised that the computers/laptops and an Asus tablet are loaded with Windows 8. From playing around with the new Microsoft OS I can say this. Unless you are willing to buy or already have a touch base monitor, do not upgrade to Windows 8!

Of course they'll buy it. Apple packages and markets incredibly well, it's their strong suit. Companies all over the world are studying Apple's practice and will be implementing them in their own products and marketing. It's a sleekly designed and packaged product, anything Apple.
The iPad Mini by the specs for all we know could be using old iPhone and iPod parts. But in all seriousness, it comes down to packaging and marketing. The Kindle Fire did incredibly well and Apple had felt it needed to get into that market quickly.
