Toronto police say a 15-year-old boy arrested after a sting operation Saturday night is behind a series of sexual assaults that terrorized the west-end neighbourhood of Christie Pits through the summer and fall.

The juvenile will be charged with 14 counts of sexual assault and two counts of criminal harassment.


He was arrested by police right after a sexual assault around 11 p.m. Saturday, near the corner of Bloor Street West and Roxton Road.

Officers were present at the scene and the suspect was caught thanks to an undercover officer acting as a decoy.

“He was arrested right at the scene of the assault,” Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair told reporters.

Chief Blair confirmed that the force had used undercover female officers but would not give more details.

“We had people out there, putting themselves in harm’s way," he said.

The arrest was announced Monday morning after investigators conducted a search warrant late Sunday.

Chief Blair urged any victims haven’t stepped forward yet to contact investigators.

The suspect was to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street Monday morning. His name cannot be released because of restrictions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

15 years old out raping women. Now granted, I can remember being 15 and there were some kids who were big enough and powerful enough to take on most adults, but still - out raping women at age 15 ya gotta wonder what the future holds for this kid.

Needless to say, nothing is going to happen to him thanks to our wonderful "Youth Criminal Justice Act". Mind you, I think even when I was a kid, if you were less than 16 you were protected to some degree or another.

I said that it is still sexual assault in my post, but as you see in the second post people assume it's rape and a whole neighbourhood becomes terrorized.
Maybe they should break it down in degrees like Sexual Assault 1, 2 or 3 that includes certain types of aggression like they do for other crimes.

Even if it's only multiple cases of groping, that's still bad, as it escalates to worse.

Several female columnists complained about this policy too. Were they at risk of rape, or physical harm, being physically restrained? Or was this guy just copping a feel and running away? No one is saying.

Both are criminal sexual assault and deserve prosecuting but they represent very different levels of risk to women deciding whether to chance walking home alone.

There is different forms of criminal charges for murder, physical assault, theft, etc. There should be different ones for sexual assault as well.

Sure, but if you are walking down Church and Wessley would you rather have some dude grab your ass or fuck your ass. If I must decide between the two options, it is a pretty clear choice. The first is a WTF, piss off, moment. The second is a taking a shower with a SOS pad while saying "unclean unclean" over and over again while sobbing.

That is the case in Canada. All sexual assault in Canada is covered by the laws on assault generally (being defined as unwanted touching). If there is wounding or threats to life it gets upgraded to aggravated assault. There is also assault with a weapon. It's also one of those dual offenses that can be prosecuted either as an indictable offense (similar to felony) or on summary conviction (similar to misdemeanor), with the difference left up to case law.

This all works pretty well in court but the heavy reliance on case law does not give the police clear guidelines on how to categorize different severities of sexual assault, so to the media they report violent rape, date rape, and groping the same way in warnings to the public.

It seems that women should be getting more specific information about the nature of the attacks being investigated when there is a serial sexual assault happening.

Physically a 15 year old can be as big as the average man or even bigger. These days 15 year old know a lot more than we did when we were younger. In grade school, I knew several kids that were not right for different reasons. In the second grade the teachers came to tell us that one of the kids would not be coming back to school, he was a troubled kid from a troubled family. Because he was neglected, he would go into stores and steal things, his mother put his hand on a red hot stove to teach him a lesson.

the media is making this into something more serious, from what I got from the media he would run up to women, assault them and run. he would probably grope them and run for a thrill. he wasnt dragging them into a dark alley beating and raping them. sure, his behaviour could progress to that point and he needed to get caught
