Never, ever use a Qtip. All it will do is compact the wax even more. Definitely go to a doctor or walk-in clinic and have your ear cleaned by a medical professional Otherwise, you can do serious damage, possibly risking your hearing.

As mentioned, Shopper's has several ear wax removal products. Murine, Cerumol, etc. They work but will take several applications.

All you need is 3% hydrogen peroxide put into your ear with a dropper. It should dissolve completely in about 15 to 20 tries. You'll know its gone when the fizzling stops and you can hear again

Murine works for me. I apply it warm, close the ear with a cotton swab. Wait 30 mins, then flush the ear canal with a rubber bulb type irrigator. Works perfectly and is simple, cheap and readily available at Shoppers Drug. Have been doing this for 15 years. Had an annual checkup last month and asked the doc if there was any buildup, and she replied none at all.

Doctors sometimes also have a water pik type gadget they can use to blast the wax out of your ears.
I keep an old syringe thingy with a spout instead of a needle. It works like the big ass syringe thingy / water pick that you see at the doctor's office. I just clean it with soap and (relatively) hot water, dry it off so it doesn't slip, then use warm water in my ears. Basically I keep flushing till the candy-- err, wax comes out. Then I dry it with a q-tip. My ears have always been prone to clogging with wax, and going to the doctor each time stuck me as a waste.

After you flush your ears, yourself or with 'help', try not to stand outside in the cold damp for hours on end...

It's not just my hearing that feels impaired by what feels like a clog in my ears, but my right ear often hears nonexistent ringing that lasts for a day or two whenever I hear loud music.
The ringing is related to damage from noise not ear wax. Two unrelated events.

I've had the flush by a doc as a child.

Ear candling is another option.

It's a hollow candle that when lit sucks things out of your ear.

The bulb can be bought at drugs stores.

You can watch youtube videos on this stuff. Some are pretty disgusting as you see into the ear.

I find that when I take a hot shower, the steam will loosen and moisten any ear wax. After that I just dig it out with my fingers. Actually it will collect under my finger nails (yes it is kinda gross). Rinse and Repeat!

Ear candling is a total scam, as it does not remove anything from your ears, and can be dangerous if the wax falls into your ear canal. Don’t waste your money.
+1. I believe it is on quackwatch.

I've seen the wax removed that way.... as when a big chunk gets sucked out it clogs the candle.

If you have a large wax buildup, one might recommend using a few drops of mineral oil in the ear each day for several days to soften up the wax, then having a doctor flush it out.

If you have less wax buildup, one might recommend using a bit of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and flushing it after several seconds with a rubber-bulb style irrigator. This shouldn't be done too often, but perhaps monthly for maintenance.

I just saw an infomercial for waxvac.com. $10 for 2 of these gadgets. Seems no harm to try it.

if you live in ontario, you can get a certified doctor to do it. free. while there, they'll check for any other problems. you can't go wrong. why would you self-diagnose and pay money?
