As their union pointed out well before last year, inspectors in Canada's packing plants are few, and too busy doing paperwork to actually inspect, thanks to budget cuts at CFIA. The policy of OHG has been in this and many areas to let industry police itself. As if managers in the private sector were too dumb to control their costs in precisely the same way.

Freely competing for the lowest death and illness totals is the best we can expect?

I am so pleased that this thread has so many hits and feedback. It shows that you guys really care about the safety of your food. As we all know, food is second only to sex in order of importance in our lives.

Query: How many of you have suffered an eColi infection? Was it fun? Did you survive?

In all seriousness, as a comedian (for you Bobby Bittman fans), even for a bunch of horn dogs whose hormones remain unchecked, if push actually came to shove we would all eventually choose food over sex.

I'm thinking of switching to Halal meat. Is Halal meat safer? Are Christian allowed to consume Halal meat?

Not sure of it's safer....but it is cleaner as the blood is drained from the cow's neck.

Now, the recall.....is happening at large manufacturers that produce this meat. I would suggest getting your meat from a butcher...as this would probably be better to consume. (no preservatives)

As for Christians eating Halal......I think it's ok, My understanding is that Sikh's are the only ones not allowed. Christians, Jewish people and Muslims are similar in religious following. Don't see why Christians can't eat it.
