how risky is oral sex

In the general U.S. population, 17% of adults aged 14-49 years have HSV-2 antibodies. (CDC)

How many of these have it in the throat or mouth so that they might pass it on from a BBBJ?

Of those, how many who passed it on would it result in any sores as opposed to being latent
or unnoticeable to the point that the person who has it doesn't even know it, and it has
zero negative effect on their life?

Would the BBBJ have to be "deep throat" to cause an infection? BTW i like my head sucked,
not the whole shaft.

http://www.herpesguide.ca/

If a woman has had fewer than 5 sex partners in her life the odds of her having HSV-2 is under 19%. Once she hits 10 sex partners the risk is over 37% ( National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey study performed between 2005 and 2008)
I've had well over 50 sex partners, many of whom were low track drug addicts in Vancouver,
some of whom i kissed even though they had sores on their face. So i guess it's safe to say
the chance i have HSV is very high. Yet it has no negative effect on my life and i'm not
aware that it has affected any of my sex partners.

After sessions with a lot of lip to lip kissing i sometimes notice a pimple type sore or zit
around my mouth, but have no idea if that's HSV related or something else like acne. I put
some cold sore or acne meds on it and it clears up within a few days.

I've never had any HSV sores on my genitals. Can one get it/them in both places?

Seroprevalence estimates for HSV-1 and HSV-2 in Canada (1999) 57% + 13%

FYI HSV = Human Simplex Virus = Herpes.

Although not documented in detail, I guess it would be safe to say that in Toronto every second person you meet who has had over 10 sex partners has herpes of one kind or another.
In Toronto, Vancouver, or anywhere i've lived i'd say not even 1 in 1000 faces i've seen shows
any indication that they might have a HSV problem worth worrying about for one second. I'd
venture to guess the same would apply if i saw their genitals.

Don't you hate facts?
Actually, i love them. I also like to play with them & dig beneath the surface.

And i feel quite comfortable with having recieved BBBJ's from dozens of SP's, sometimes for
1-4 hours at a time. The article in this thread actually confirms that sentiment to me.

Of late, BTW, many SP's i see i have had tested for HIV and or other STI's. I've also avoided
the very high risk type sex workers for a year or two.

Way too complicated a set of questions to even try and answer here. Maybe we can do a tiny bit of info.

Common types of herpes are most infectious from the areas where you see the sores. The virus is shed for several days before and after a sore appears. In some cases the visible sores never even appear.

In the case of BJs the area around the lips is most often the shedding area. There is not that much risk if you can get in there without contacting the mouth. I am just not certain how to get in there without having contact with the lips. Note lips includes a cm or two on the outside of the mouth.

No signs ? That is nice. You can still be very infectious.

There are more studies going on that are linking herpes to serious medical conditions. They are just not at the point that you can trust any.

We do know that if you had chickenpox or herpes it is probably a great idea to get Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Vaccination before you turn 50. Shingles are not at all nice

Many studies are linking Herpes to everything from stroke to AIDs. Lots of arguments about causality (is herpes a 'door' for more serious things, or is it similar life style risks). All we know for certain is if you find Herpes best check for other STDs. For every researcher that claims it has a huge impact, there is another that says it is not a big deal. I read somewhere that it has mostly long term serious effects.

Sadly oral and genital is even harder to explain now days. A few decades ago it was pretty much 2 separate things (1 or 2). Now days with oral/genital contact it is hard to be certain which virus is there without testing.

Some one once told me that herpes is a rather low key STD that makes it painful to have sex once in a while and may reduce your quality life expectancy by something like a decade, or may not. Think of it as a weird kind of Russian roulette :) Might or might not be loaded at all, might or might not be a loaded chamber, might or might not be aimed at something important, might or might not hit something important. :)

For me, too many mights, and condoms help a lot of them.

It easily would even be happy to enter a new host through the nasal cavity, if you somehow decided to pump sperm in there.
Can't say I've ever had a nose job.

Glad we are getting the quarterly anti-bbbj thread out of the way early. Don't forget that you can use popsicle sticks as tongue depressors for pre-examination. Since 90% of the sp's give bbbj's how many of us have actually contracted the clap through oral ? Time to own up.

Assuming i even have herpes, which is unknown, having no signs of it would make me probably much
less infectious than one who has visible sores, wouldn`t you agree?

"HSV-1 affected 57.7% of Americans tested in a 1999-2004 study.[2] By age 50, 80%–90% of adults have the virus.[3]"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_sores

At my age, over 50, it seems at least 80-90% have the virus. What are we supposed to do, give up sex because we "can still be very infectious"? According to the CDC, even condoms don`t protect you:

"Genital ulcer diseases can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered or protected by a latex condom, as well as in areas that are not covered."

http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/STDFact-herpes.htm

The "surest way" to avoid herpes, if you don`t have it already, would be to give up seeing SP`s
and become a monk, or be enslaved to one clean woman forever:

"The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, including genital herpes, is to abstain from sexual contact, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected."

http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/STDFact-herpes.htm

IOW a fate worse than death. So boring, like plastic baggie services.

The HN said:

"...The risk reward of a bbbj like everything else in life is a personal decision and really depends on what the person is comfortable with. Someone`s risk tolerance can also change over time based on what happens in your life e.g. new information, personal experience, changes in social situation etc...

"...Just remember that the chance of getting HIV from performing oral sex on a man with HIV is considered low. Not having the person cum in your mouth would reduce this chance.

https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthrea...han-BBBJ&p=1256364&highlight=BBBJ#post1256364

Additionally risk can be reduced by recieving BBBJs from an SP who generally gives CBJs.
Or from one who you know has recently tested negative for STIs.

"Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak. Although the infection can stay in the body indefinitely, the number of outbreaks tends to decrease over a period of years."

"...Persons with herpes should abstain from sexual activity with uninfected partners when lesions or other symptoms of herpes are present...Sex partners can seek testing to determine if they are infected with HSV. A positive HSV-2 blood test most likely indicates a genital herpes infection.

No. Shedding is the issue, not revolting sores. Asymptomatic shedding is the norm, not the exception.

Hun, notice that is about HSV-1 and cold sores, pretty much the little cousin to HSV-2.

According to the CDC, even condoms don't protect you:

"Genital ulcer diseases can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered or protected by a latex condom, as well as in areas that are not covered."
Yes infection can occur anywhere the live virus or bacteria comes in contact with your skin. Think of it as a policeman who can get shot anywhere, but wears a bullet proof vest to improve his odds.

By the way genital ulcer diseases include the entire range of ulcers, not just herpes. The same can also be said about skin parasite infections. Soap and water does not kill them by the way. The soap and water can however flush them away. A shower before contact reduces the odds of giving, a shower after reduces the odds of keeping.

"The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, including genital herpes, is to abstain from sexual contact, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected."
Very true :) Worked out very well for me :)

"...The risk reward of a bbbj like everything else in life is a personal decision and really depends on what the person is comfortable with. Just like smoking, crossing against the lights, speeding, drinking and driving, and many other things, you decide what you want and live with the result.

Additionally risk can be reduced by recieving BBBJs from an SP who generally gives CBJs.
Or from one who you know has recently tested negative for STIs.
lenny, do what ever you want. Why would I care? I suspect that many SPs would not care about what you do. I never allowed bbbj because the risk is too high for me to accept. Trying to talk or pressure someone who normally gives CBJs is not an acceptable action. I never bothered getting a blood test while I was a working SP. Mainly because once I was infected I would have had no other option but to continue working, so why bother? I do know someone who offered to sell me "negative result lab tests" for $20.00 though.

Any woman who accepts pre-cum or cum in her body from a man who has not been tested and is monogamous is risking her health. Her choice. Mine was to not take the risk. I also do not smoke for the same reason. It is all about choice. But it is discouraging when men go on about it and how safe it is.

Ok enough preaching for me. End of my responses here.

No. Shedding is the issue, not revolting sores. Asymptomatic shedding is the norm, not the exception.
If one is not more infectious when they have sores, then why am i reading this:

"...Persons with herpes should abstain from sexual activity with uninfected partners when lesions or other symptoms of herpes are present."

http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/STDFact-herpes.htm

"Herpes is most infectious during the period when itchy sores start to appear on the skin during an outbreak. But even if an outbreak causes no visible symptoms or breaks in the skin, there is still a risk of the virus being passed on to another person through skin contact."

http://www.avert.org/herpes.htm

"The herpes virus is most infectious during the blistering stage, less infectious after the blisters crust over, yet may be passed on to your partner during the prodromal stage or right after the blisters disappear."

http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C150849.html

"Significantly, cold sores and genital lesions remain infectious until they have crusted over, so contact should be avoided during this time because the virus can be transmitted to other parts of the body, and to other people, especially between the mouth and the genitals."

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/articles/article/chrissmithcolumn4.htm/

I never allowed bbbj because the risk is too high for me to accept.
Like i posted, people have different tolerance levels for risk vs rewards.

http://healthnurse.wordpress.com/faq-about-sexual-health/risk-tolerance/

Trying to talk or pressure someone who normally gives CBJs is not an acceptable action.
I don't believe in pressuring anyone, though i'm sure many regulars get offered extra or special services from numerous SP's.

I never bothered getting a blood test while I was a working SP. Mainly because once I was infected I would have had no other option but to continue working, so why bother?
No other options?

If tested & found to be infected, you could then get treatment or medications to
the benefit of both you and your sex partners.

I have to wonder how many other SP's are out there who never get tested for STIs.

I do know someone who offered to sell me "negative result lab tests" for $20.00 though.
What would be the point of that? Did you have customers asking to see test papers?

When i get SP's tested i go with them to the hospital/clinic & am there when they
get their test results (which i see) & talk to the doctor about them. They aren't
buying fake papers in an alley on skid row or creating & printing up their own at home.

Alternately i wonder if it might be possible for clients & SP's to see each other's results
from an official medical website. That would be a more hassle free method.

Any woman who accepts pre-cum or cum in her body from a man who has not been tested and is monogamous is risking her health. Her choice. Mine was to not take the risk.
Yes, there is degree of risk, depending on the service being engaged in. BTW, one SP
i see seems to know (from the foul taste?) when my precum is entering her mouth
and immediately spits it out. I also can alert her when i sense it is about to come out
and get it cleaned up before it even touches her body.

it actually grosses me the fuck out with these prostitutes do bbbj. i only deal with the safe ones that are condom only.
Obviously our paths will never cross. You really want to limit risks, stay home and pleasure yourself. I love BBBJ's and never have had a problem over many years of hobbying. BTW: yes - I like DFKing too. Maybe I have the misguided illusion that SA know about mouthwash as I see most of them use mouthwash and shower before their next client.

There's a ton of fear mongering on the internet about STDs. In a way it's a good thing though, better that people be cautious.

With that being said, I suggest googling Hunter Handsfield, he's an MD in the states and expert on Sexual Health (award winning). He's all over forums/message boards answering questions for people.

You'll probaby find an answer to any question you have regarding these issues.

I'd rather take expert advice than listen to hearsay and opinions of random people. Just sayin......

Take amateur porn for example, it's rare to see couples using condoms. How many of them (especially the younger crowd) do you think got tested before they had unprotected sex? I don't think fear mongering about STI's is making anyone more cautious.

Can you direct me to any articles on "Medhelp" that support your claim that chlamydia
cannot be transmitted via oral sex?

According to the Health Nurse chart giving or recieving a BBBJ is high risk for chlamydia:

http://healthnurse.wordpress.com/faq-about-sexual-health/sti-risks-chart/

https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?165018-is-it-possible-that-an-sti&highlight=chlamydia

I don;t care what the health nurse says, your family doctor or local nurse at a clinic is just parroting what the govt teaches and conventional wisdom, they arnt experts. Id rather take the advice of a doctor who specializes in std`s and infectious diseases. someone mentioned DR.Handsfield, he`s the expert on medhelp there is also another Dr in that forum whos just as qualified, they live and breath this shit it is their life, have decades of experience they know of all the current research & studies. there is alot of myths and misconceptions regarding stds

I've heard of someone getting herpes on their eyebrows due to double dipping during waxing by an aesthetician... All it takes is contact and it doesn't even have to be direct! :/
The following sites have some similar comments:

"Avoid kissing and skin contact with people, especially children, while blisters are present.
"Avoid sharing food, cups/glasses/cans, utensils and towels when blisters are present.
"Keep your hands clean - wash them frequently to avoid passing on the virus or infecting other areas of your body.

http://www.coldsores.ca/articles/art3.html

"Studies have shown that, the vast majority of the time, oral herpes is transmitted most commonly in someone’s youth when they are kissed by a relative who’s infected and suffering from an active cold sore outbreak–yeah, that sucks."

http://coldsoreshomeremedies.ca/index.php/2009/03/lysine-cold-sores/

"Cold sores in children are nothing out of the ordinary. According to the American Social Health Association, around half of the adult population in the U.S. is infected with the virus that causes cold sores, and most were exposed during childhood.

"...Your child experiences a painful cold sore when he's exposed to someone with the herpes simplex-1 virus (HSV-1). This virus can be transmitted by an affectionate kiss or other facial contact, but it can be spread by shared towels, dishes and eating utensils as well.

"...According to ASHA, about 75 percent of people who get a cold sore never get another.

"...Also, because the watery blisters contain HSV-1, your child can spread the virus to other parts of his body. While your child has a cold sore, discourage touching the sore and ensure that he washes his hands frequently, just to be safe.

Last year I saw my first flock of flamingoes (alive ones). There seemed to be a few that took great pleasure in getting the entire flock nattering and having a huge yelling match. The main trick seemed to be poking another bird at random to start a commotion. Pretty much, I see you in that context. And if you told me you went to the instant HIV test vending machine I would believe you just as much. :)

Unfortunately some STIs/STDs do not or may not have symptoms, especially in women. And if a person is infected but never tested, they could end up in much poorer health than if they had been tested and treated, including serious illnesses, cancer, even dead. At least many pornstars are regularly tested.

Re Doctor Handsfield's comments on chlamydia from medhelp.org, i found these somewhat dated
(early 2006) remarks, saying it rarely if ever is transmitted by oral sex, or at least from mouth to penis. Whether or not he meant to include transmission the other way, from penis to mouth, or DATY in either direction, is unclear to me.

"...chlamydia has been found in the throat, but it is so rare CDC (in its own treatment guidelines--i.e, from the science side) recommends against testing for it, and that recommendation will be stated even more strongly in the coming revision of those guidelines, due for release ~June. Oral to genital transmission of chlamydia has never been documented, to my knowledge. And in data reviews in the Seattle STD clinic, men with NGU who say they have only received oral sex in the preceding 2 months--i.e., no vaginal or anal--rarely have chlamydia. (Those that do are mostly carrying chlamydia for longer than the 2-month time frame covered by the question.) "

"...It's the latter, "the reporter not understanding what was said". I spoke with several reporters when that study (by investigators in Melbourne, Australia) came out, because I wrote an accompanying editorial. Some tried to spin their stories to emphasize the supposedly high risk of oral sex. Just like the data from Seattle I cited above, it is likely that the Melbourne chlamydia-infected men who claimed only oral sex recently and also had chlamydia either were giving inaccurate information about their sexual practices, or had been carrying chlamydia in their urethras longer than the window period for the sexual activity questions. In other words, the Melbourne study suggests that chlamydia is transmitted by oral sex infrequently, if ever."

Thanks Riley for the useless article. Not a shred of new information in it.

Oral = low risk.

I didn't get herpes, syphilis, and chlamydia through oral sex. I got it by barebacking 4 trannies in a gangbang while vacationing in Brazil.
