Both then. Lego is indispensable. It does more for young minds than most books. Upgrade to Lego Mindstorms once the kid hits 5 and (s)he'll be a goddamn genius.Lego rocks but for a younger kid I'd say Duplo or Mega Blocks.

Good point.Yeah was just thinking choking hazard so that's why I would wait a bit on Lego till sure 4 or 5.
Something missing here. I'll assume you meant, ". . if I shag her before or after . ."My friend is 7 months pregnant and I want to get her something. What should I get her and does it matter if I before or after the baby is born?
Canadian medical association used to make a book with common child symptoms, and guidelines on what to do, when it might be serious, etc. Worth it for new parents battling fevers etc for the first time.My friend is 7 months pregnant and I want to get her something. What should I get her and does it matter if I before or after the baby is born?
Great idea! Unless the couple knows him/her well already, you might want to get a package for when the kid is bit older. The 3-day old pics can be pretty intimate.Pay for a photographer.
Another great idea...a timeless classic Oddly, my kid loves his ipad, but when it comes to reading, he insists on hardcopy! Books are cool!Good Night Moon every child needs this book
As a keepsake, why not? I like to give keepsakes that (hopefully) the kid will hang on to for life. My go-to baby gift is something from the sterling silver piggybank collection from Birks. Affordable and memorable.Silver spoon from Tiffany
Enfamil? Also a good idea, but not everyone is into formula. Especially at the newborn stage, some overprotective parents insist on the premixed stuff (sterile). And of course, there are the crazy boob-juice-only parents.....I always buy the same gift. 2 large cans of enfermal ( or something like that) the baby formula that doesn't have a lot of iron in it... No one ever complains.
Two good long term gift suggestions: www.oneshare.com , where you can buy the kid one share of Disney, Pixar, Harley etc. nicely framed with inscription of your choice.
This is an excellent idea. My children received Disney shares and we had unlimited free day passes along with substantial hotel discounts into the park until they were 18. I think starting a baby off with an investment is the way to go. Lola's suggestions of Molly Maid, diaper services and such are also excellent along with GC's for take out dinners and spas are a really thoughtful and useful gesture. Practical gifts that don't collect dust or require selling or donating later and will make life a little easier in the beginning are by far the most appreciated...
