If they don't amnesty Calderon I hope they amnesty Kleiza.. Unless Val's english is absolutely horrible.

Or maybe they'll trade Kleiza and a draft pick for cap space ;).
I all respect your opinions but Kleiza only makes 4 a bit year and so what does removing his salary do ? Heck one of the player exemption is 5.5 and he doesn't even make that much . Next year he will be in his late 20's with an expiring contract . In today's crazy NBA salary structure .. 4.5 million is nothing .

Previous to being with the Raps was playing close to 80 games a season and got hurt . He is 100 percent
and is a big body for a small forward and think for 4 million he is a bargain .

I've seen Jonas interviewed. I wouldn't say he was fluent but his English is passable and will improve once he gets here.
I'm with you on KLeiza, he has to pick it up big time. The first time they played Denver he had a great game, since then not much.

I'm for getting rid of Kleiza so there are more minutes for Ross.. Hopefully Ross averages 20 mpg.. sharing the court with Derozan or Fields. Hopefully he can show signs of being a more well rounded player than Demar against NBA level competition.

I keep hoping that we will see a trade that moves a few players in and a few out. Trading is so different now from the "good old days'' when you just exchanged players and didn't have the cap to worry about. It use to be a lot easier for the GM's. I'm just not sure the Raps have much that anyone wants.

Well it's morning and no amestied players declared . Since yesterday ( at midnight ) was the last time a team could use it, that means Jose and KLeiza will be here on opening day unless traded .

I am surprised the Bulls have phoned the Raps about Jose . They need one badly untill Rose comes back and when he comes back Jose's expiring contract maybe attractive to some teams at the trade deadline .

I believe there are lots of teams that want Calderon. I don't think they are willing to give the Raps what they need. I would rather have two PG's than 1 and a prayer. If some team comes up with the right offer I am sure Jose is on the move.
I don't think Colangelo is finished yet, (at least I hope not), because while I believe the team to be better than last year, they still are at best average.

I think maybe NBA GM's were waiting to see if the Raptors were going to Amesity Jose ( sorry for spelling ) before talking serious trade and now that the deadline is over they might be willing to talk .

Kyle Lowry
Landry Fields
Jonas Valanciunas
Terrence Ross
Andrea Bargnani
DeMar DeRozan
Linas Kleiza
Aaron Gray
Ed Davis
Amir Johnson
Jose Calderon

So Far 11 players are signed ... 12 if you include Quincy Acy who is signed but maybe starting year on a D-League roster

Heard an interview with Colangelo that indicated the amnesty could have been part of a deal. I am sure BC had to have an adequate PG in return and they seem to be in short supply.

Personally I am happy with the Raptor's PG situation as it stands. To me they have two better than average point guards. Eithe rof these guys can run the floor, Calderon probably not as good defensively.
Raps need a SF and /or a SG that can score and is not afraid to mix it up. If Fields can score consistently he will really help.

The Raptors, in a very roundabout way, are going to turn James Johnson into John Lucas III.

According to league sources, Toronto will sign Lucas as the Raptors third point guard as soon as the trade of Johnson to the Sacramento Kings for a second-round draft pick finalized.

The Raptors would be happy to have Lucas — a 5-11 30-year-old who averaged 7.5 points and 2.2 assists per game in 49 games with the Chicago Bulls last season — as a third point guard, able to move up the pecking order in an emergency.

Also

Terrence Ross scored 21 points to help the Raptors get their first 'W' in Las Vegas Summer League action with a 96-89 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. Check the Summer League index for highlights and post-game reaction -->

Aran Gray signed salary unknown and Quincy Acy salary unknown . Therefore after Raps sign Lucas they will be really close to the Cap

Acy should receive the league minimum $ 473,604.00 I thought I had heard numbers for Gray but damned if I can find them anywhere.
You need a CGA to figure out the caps and the exceptions, I don't envy the GM's.

My pet pieve is reading " As Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed " I say Why ? Eventually we will find out and as fans shouldn't we know the salary as to how it applies to Cap space ..

I thought I read Aaron Gray was 2.5 million per season but maybe that was his old contract.
Both salaries seem to be damm on ...

Jose Calderon $10,561,982
Andrea Bargnani $10,000,000
Landry Fields $6,333,333
Amir Johnson $6,050,000
Kyle Lowry $5,750,000
Linas Kleiza $4,600,000
DeMar DeRozan $3,344,250
Jonas Valanciunas $2,812,200
Ed Davis $2,207,040
Terrence Ross $2,136,100
Aaron Gray $2,500,100
Acy $ 473,604

Total: $56,767.04 - 1.23M cap space

Salary Cap: $58 million
Tax Threshold: $70 million

Saying that .... like Dawgger said " You need a CGA to figure out the caps and the exceptions " If signing your own player doesn't count against your own cap ( Bird Rights ) then who knows how much cap space they have left .

Is it just me or does this lineup look like the LEAST promising lineup we have ever entered a season with???

We have to HOPE Demar Derozan takes it to another level, but me thinks we've seen the best Derozan already.
We have to HOPE Ed Davis picked up some new offense since last year.
We have to HOPE Amir Johnson is healthy and back to his PEAK shooting and board production.
We have to HOPE Valunciunas is the real deal.
We have to HOPE we don't lose Calderon and get nothig in return.
We have to HOPE Bargnani plays back at last years early season PEAK Play and stays healthy.
We have to HOPE we see something in Kyle Lowry that Houston does not(if he takes a quantum leap this year, after missing out on Jeremy Lin originally they will have to replace their GM)
We have to HOPE LAndry Fields plays like his rookie year and pre-Melo stats.
We have to HOPE Terrence Ross is NBA ready and wins rookie of the year.
We have to HOPE Linus Kleiza is healthy and shooting the lights out this year.

and then if all these things work out, then maybe we lose competitively to the teams like Miami and Oklahoma City.

Damn that.a lot of HOPING!
Unfortunately some of the HOPING may be futile.
Bargnani MUST play at last years early season and stay healthy.
Lowry MUST be the real deal.
THe rookies, Jonas and Ross have to play like lottery picks. They don't have to be allstars
but they have to give us quality minutes consistently and make us believe that something
good is about to happen.
Casey has to continue coaching hard. Raps defense was the best this team has had in a long time,
that has to continue, and now Casey has to find some offense to go with it.

One thing I am surprised at, so far they haven't signed Anderson, the "D" leaguer they brought in
at the end of the year.He replaced James Johnson and really didn't look out of place. I would think
he could be signed for somewhere near the league minimum and that should keep them within the cap.

I don't think we can expect the rooks to be consistent but I expect Davis and Derozan to improve or their long term place on the roster should be in doubt..This is Derozan's contract year I believe.
Resigning your own players counts against cap but you are able to go over cap to keep them. Whereas you can only go over cap using exceptions or vet min contracts for others.

Wow Cap talk I can actually understand. Thanks!

I agree with you on Davis and DeRozan. Davis really hasn't shown any consistency. My biggest beef with Derozan is offensively, he doesn't get to the line enough. It appears he just doesn't want to take the banging inside. I would think he knows he has to improve defensively too. He wasn't on the floor much in the 4th when a game was close.

I would like Demar to show an improved jump shot and handle, but either one would do wonders for his effectiveness. Those are key skills for a shooting guard and he has not shown meaningful progress in either department three years in. With his relatively high usage rate though (lack of other options on team) he still gets decent points per game. Leads me to think someone will over pay.

That's how I feel every year. Carter, Bosh, McGrady, Stoudamire good players but they still had to have a good game and the support and to step up as well. I never felt like the Raptors have had a guy who could lift the team in those close games. There was never that guy who you said "10 seconds left oh good it's in X's hands
