I have no problem with his movies or his acting for the most part. His movies generally don't suck. Born on the fourth of July was great. A few good men was good. He has a pretty long and good quality portfolio. Actually David Spade said much the same thing about him once on a short lived tv show. He summed it up by saying 'There, I don't always shit on everybody." or words to that effect.

Johnny Depp owned the club where River Phoenix overdosed and died. He knew Phoenix had a drug problem and yet let him score inside his club. I think Depp is a good actor but a bit of a douchebag.

Three up three down. I'm guessing his "religious" affiliation was an issue to some degree in all three.

Phoenix was an addict and he was a spoiled brat with no sense of security.

He had been pal'ing around with Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers for quite some time and fancied himself a "musician". (What is it with so many actors being wannabe musicians?). Anyway, Pheonix had jammed with Flea and his group of musician friends a few times and began to think himself in the band.

That fateful night, Flea was going to take to the stage with his musician buddies and Pheonix wanted to join him on stage. Flea told Pheonix that he wasn't welcome to join them on stage (in a nutshell, I'm sure he found a way to try and be polite about it). Any way, Pheonix took that direction very badly and responded by going on a bender (as any child would do) and started using cocaine and drinking alcohol. (All the while embarassing Flea more and more.)

By the end of it, he had six times the fatal amount of cocaine in his system. The autopsy revealed cocaine and morphine (heroin shows up as morphine, as the body metabolizes), Valium, marijuana and ephedrine (meth).

All because he was asked to sit out a jam session he wasn't really capable of doing..

Yay.

Depp had nothing to do with it.

I agree as well. I think Tom Cruise is a talented actor too; I was disappointed when he went ape-shit on Oprah, but I still enjoy his movies. And that's really the point of his career, to entertain (on the screen, not in real life).

I am shocked that so many people think Cruise is a good actor. The guy is horrible. Over emotes. No subtlety. Incapable of being a romantic leading man. His best work is Magnolia (which is at its core a ridiculous movie) and Born on the 4th of July. In both cases he had someone to smack him around to get a good performance out of him. Movies like A Few Good Men, or his "comedic" turn in Tropic Thunder are just so fucking bad it is unbelievable. Add in he is a whack job battling the evil emperor Xenu and he goes from bad to ridiculous.

Cruise is good box office, nothing more. So is Spielberg, who has not made a good movie in decades (I would go back to 1989). Both of them are simply too cloying, cold, and artificial.

That may all be true but he was a great actor and his career would've taken off and made him one of the most exceptional actors of our time. What a waste of talent.

To witness Cruise's great acting ability, watch Born on the Fourth of July!
Was also great in The Last Samurai which he co-produced.

You're obviously forgetting about Schindler's List which just happened to win the Academy Award for best picture and director.

I guess I missed something.
Will have to watch his movies again to re-evaluate.

- Tom was informed via email from her lawyer
- She got him to sign over property in NY last year so she could fight him from here
- He has no lawyer ready.
- World War III is being threatened by Tom's ppl over Suri & Connor says Katie is a 'dead bitch walking'.
- Katie has the best divorce attorney on the east coast
- Tom will file his response in Cali
- Connor wants his dad to make sure she is 'confined to indie films'
- Tom is contemplating doing a 'Katie is a man eater interview'
- Katie says she will bust open the COS secrets - provided she gets some terms I wasnt able to see/overhear.

Could get good.....

She's a shitty actress anyway. She has never impressed. She was probably hoping that he would do for her what he did for Nicole Kidman. Only one small difference - Nicole Kidman can act.....

Really dude? I'm not going to go as far as to say he's the greatest actor of his generation, but he's pretty decent
He was hilarious in Tropic Thunder. He might be a nut, but he's a pretty good actor I think. Also Spielberg's a little hit and miss lately, but he's made a decent number of great movies in the past decade or so (Saving Private Ryan, Munich) I do agree he can be a bit overly sentimental and cloying, but he's still a damn good filmmaker. I'm really interested in seeing his Lincoln biopic
