Not rich, but I do fairly well by living within my means.

may I ask: why bother trying to get rich if you can live happily without good clothes, good cars, restaurants, houses and women anyway?
lol well its sacrificing now for a better future. btw you can have a nice place without buying a house, you can fuck girls without making them your gf and buying them gifts, you can have a nice car without buying brand new, how about 2 or 3 years old? I just live well within my means. being in a serious relationship is the biggest thing to hold you back from getting rich unless she has the same mentality. case in point one of my buddies whos married followed my advice and made some money in the stock market, I told him to buy this next stock that could up his money 10x over the next year but his wife made him take out the money and spend it on some bs. alot of ppl have the mentality that once your done school in your 20's you have now reached your potential and youre supposed to settle down...thats a crock of shit. im nowhere near where I want to be im hungry. eventually id like to leave canada and move to asia, live on the beach in thailand or something

Respect my friend - you're doing well. Make your 20's pay. I know many a person who wasted their 20's taking drugs etc and and now in their 30's and 40's and don't have a pot to piss in...but remember there's more to life than money!
youre right, there is more to life than money...but ppl seem to think life is a hollywood movie. all I do is run into men above 45 and they all have divorce horror stories, meanwhile ppl my age and abit older are all thinking with their hearts and not their brain. ive come to the realization its going to be very hard for me to find a woman I want to get serious with, I want a girl with my mentality and they are very rare. also, lets not forget she has to be ok with the whole screwing other women bit lol....so its a tall order. I have good friends and family that I love they are important to me.. another option for me is to marry a simple minded woman who treats her man like a king, and believes a womans role is to take care of the household, cook & clean, please her husband....that would work. anyway, right now my priority is to get rich its all I think about

Simple question :)

Howd you get so rich?

I know we're not all rolling in dough but I know quite a few people on this board are doing VERY well for themselves.

So howd you do it? Spend half your life in school? Win the lottery? Play the stock market? Marry rich?

Share your stories... I'm looking for some inspiration here~
Learn to spell. It's "how'd", a contraction of "how" and "did".

This skill will make you fabulously rich. :p

Can help

If your just starting a mortgage, sit down and calculate what you home is actually going to cost you when you finish paying the mortgage.

I think you will be shocked at the final figure.
Don’t forget, for the 1st few years, your payments go mostly to interest, very little to principle.

A little sacrifice now can save you big time, literally $100,000‘s, and take off some pressure.

FAST.

Lots of rags to riches stories. Here is a story from the other side. I got a PM from a member a few years ago. He inherited a substantial sum and blew it all on wine, women and song, oh, and drugs.

Here
Any thoughts about US real estate.. particularily in the southern US (Arizona, Las Vegas, Florida..)?
Phoenix and Las Vegas were two of the hardest hit markets in the US housing crash. The good news is that they have both seemed to have hit bottom in terms of months of inventory for sale and sale price per sq ft. Phoenix as an example is between $70-$80 per sq foot for your standard planned community 3-5 BR house in a suburb. Yup, that's right... a 3000 sq ft house going for under $250K. If you have some cash and can stand to hold onto the property for 5 years, there's alot of money to be made.

u.s. real estate still has more to fall. but if youre american a great way to short the usd is to buy a house with a 30 year 3.5% mortgage like you can get today, putting down roughly 5%. inflation will eat away at your debt

Respect!

I admire people who have come from nothing and I hate losers (ie, people who've had chances in life (schooling and up bringing in the west, family support etc) and wasted their life). I had to wait till 31 to make my first million. At 25 had 0.25 million, at 28 hit rock bottom due to a few rotten life events and bounced back.

Only other difference is I never finished high school (and I am a white collar worker) and my father earned 65k upon retirement. Best year for me was last year ($300k) which is great for me (considering my background) but is peanuts for others - respect to them though if they work for it.

What I've learned is 'you win a few, lose a few but keep on fighting'.
Good for you.

I might add that if your work or worth isn't appreciated, look elsewhere and move if it's 20% more.

Got involved with a guy, fell in love with him, and after we got married found out he had 8 figures in investments. :)
We're supposed to believe that an active escort is married to a rich man? I just looked out my window and saw a pig flying.

Reader's digest version of her "story"

-top of her class medical student who turned escort to pay debts but married her first and only client who was wealthy decided she'd rather be a trophy wife than a doctor now spends insane amounts of time on terb reading posts to her "husband"

-some question if she is for real

No hun, I retired.

I still visit because it is about the only place I have friends I can talk to about the issues you live with having been an SP.

I did read posts to him for about 2 weeks while he drove during a road trip. Now I wander in a few times a month when bored; most often when I cannot sleep.

I used to have my pic up, and actually booked a few clients using video MSN, but when I came to Toronto, he was the first and extended the booking for the week.

No big deal

:)

Fascinating thread, full of good stuff. Noteworthy for what it doesn't say: "Do what you love".

I work with a lot of young folks, interns, recent grads, etc. who have been sold on this as a life direction. It has left most of them with liberal arts degrees, student loan debt, and their very own room in their parents basement.

Funny how someone who had such a short time being an SP and 1 actual client she got married to ended up with "issues you live with having been an SP"

I know, I know, like with every other issue with fictional characters that doesn't add up, a wizard did it.

Frink: "Yes, over here, [...] in Episode BF12, you were battling barbarians while riding a winged Appaloosa, yet in the very next scene, my dear, you're clearly atop a winged Arabian! Please do explain it!
Lucy Lawless: Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it.
Frink: Yes, alright, yes, in episode AG04-"
Lucy Lawless: Wizard!

5. Make sure your parents don't squander your inheritance.
To me #5 is bad advice. While I don't want my parents to squander their money, I view it as 100% their money. I don't want them to forgo any enjoyment just so they can leave me some of it. I have made that clear. They came though for me, were good parents and I feel they no longer should have any obligations. Of course I will advise against rip offs and fraudsters, because I want to protect them. I think in this case karma rules over the pocket.

Lots of inspirational stories and good advice. I should chip in with some advice that has served me well: if you really want something, wait till it goes on sale. I find this especially true in the stock market, since some true bargains can be had at steep discounts (if you wait for the right time). The wait can be very tough though...
