Simple question :)

Howd you get so rich?

I know we're not all rolling in dough but I know quite a few people on this board are doing VERY well for themselves.

So howd you do it? Spend half your life in school? Win the lottery? Play the stock market? Marry rich?

Share your stories... I'm looking for some inspiration here~

Spent half my life in school and then promptly realized most of that stuff is good for Jeopardy and exams, and started learning from successful people in my field.

Went to school ... Quit during my last year... Went to work for 25 years almost 6 / 7 days a week - sold my company 5 years ago and retired at 45. I worked my ass off. Depended on giving the best customer service I could muster. Even if it meant eating a job. Was willing go go the extra mile and just used word of mouth to gain new customers. It was a blast, it wasn't easy. Lost more money in the first 4 / 5 years than I wish to remember then caught a break from speaking to someone in front of a show downtown having a smoke. Exchanged cards and didn't hear from him for months until one night at 11 pm on a Friday I got a call to come to his office ASAP and his current supplier screwed up a job and can I take it on but it must be done by Monday morning.

I called everyone I knew and a few people even standing at a bus stop late at night in a industrial area waiting to go home after the night shift.

Finished on time and the rest was history - not easy but easier

My two cents - do whatever you do very well and they will find you

Not going to mention names, but, apparently, one of our TERBies is heir to his family's trucking empire. Yes, there is good money in trucking. Heard another TERBie won a multi-million dollar lottery. Who knows where the truth lies?

1) Put yourself in the right place.
2) Be a Master of many trades.
3) Know the future.

When I say know the future, I do not mean you have to be a psychic. I can see that the future for the small business operators are bleak. Business is moving to the internet or big box stores. I honed my discipline in the military and have studied in several fields. I have placed myself in the right place at the right time before the the rest of the crowd gets there. Everyone has their level of incompetence where they can no go any further. I have equipped myself with tools to go places other people can not go. I know several people that have aimed for mediocrity and have achieved their level of incompetence very quickly by working for the government or post office.

This thread has inspired me to ask the question, what do you think the future will look like?

I make about 200k a year selling properties and doing international trades. Of course, that's only part-time. Full time, I'm a CEO of a small forestry company and I make about $80000/yr from that. I also had some friends in the drug trade business which I hit $1,000,000. I am the owner of 3 escort agencies and 4 massage spa's within the GTA.
I run an adult film business in Florida and in Europe and I make about 25k from that.

Everything in the business is a gamble. sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. kinda like playing in a casino really.

I own my own bakery.
I always thought that the best business is one where: a) there is no regulators/licensing etc and b) you can exploit immigrants.
