Would you be OK with cops wearing body cameras while on duty?? The recorded video would and could be used in court later to either show police brutality, or show cops were falsely accused of police brutality.

Video could also be used when traffic tickets are in dispute (such as red light, wrong turn...etc)

Police can record you when you are in public, and you can record them. Plus it will be interesting to see what happens when watchdog groups start doing large FOIA requests for the video logs and then going after police for every infraction of procedure.

Downside of course is that with the cameras combined with facial recognition software there will be little need for the "do you have id?" Anonymity will be a thing of the past.

I'll even go as far to say it might reign in a golden era of policing. The public will be on better behaviour (generally speaking) when they know they're being filmed, and cops will be also

Quid pro quo. People have been filming the cops for some time now. The use of video is becoming more prevalent so why not let the law and order types get in on it. The car video has been around for a while now, this was only a matter of time.

This is good and bad idea If you ever want to be given a warning again...you see everytime a cop runs your lic, they have to explain why they didn't write a ticket. Lets be honest here, they are not agents of justice, if they were we have to go to court alot, so they really are a means of taxing the public. So that means more tickets and less discression on their part. This is a mute point because the Union won't let it happen as it would show how little they really do.

I wonder how long it would last before some guy comes in all beat up shouting police brutality where the video has mysteriously been "damaged" and inaccessible.

Sleeping in their cruiser's and attending "calls" at donut shoppes will not be recorded.

A cop might be able to get away with that once, but not twice.

Also cops usually work in pairs, highly unlikely both cameras would "malfunction" at same time

you want camera's following you around everywhere you go ? starts with the cops, then someone will have the amazing idea to put them on every street corner watching everything you do and every move you make. i don't care if i get caught on camera, it's rare that i break the law these days but i really don't want it following me around and watching every move i make.

i dont know how cops with cameras equates to 'people want cameras every where they go'. are you a cop to simon? they are already surveillance cameras on corners in toronto. unless you already have police following you every where you go i dont see why someone would be worried about this. if you are in public expect to be filmed.

first step is putting camera's on cops, next step would be camera's on every street and street corner so nothing can slip by. people will be saying that cops can only see so much so now we need them here and here and here and so on. it's a natural progression of sorts. people will be way to eager to go long with it thus giving up a majority of their privacy. with cell phone camera's and the ability to film anyone at anytime why bother spending the money to outfit the cops with individual camera's. then you guys would bitch that, that money is being spent.

no i am not a cop, i do however support them when they should be and call them on b.s when it is appropriate as well. i am no fan and have had my head slammed on more than a few cruiser hoods in my day and had my house under hourly drive by surveillance. been years since i broke the law with any sort of regularity, hell been years since i broke the law in general. so no i am not worried, they can follow me everyday anywhere they want. just see it as a waste of time and money and leading to a inevitable invasion of privacy.

i don't expect privacy in public, that is why it is called public. also that is good your landlord was able to stop the scam in it's tracks. what i am saying or trying to say is that while i know there is no privacy in public i would like for it to be minimal. not just for me but for the people that want it. how many of you guys would be going out to sp's at incalls if you knew there was a camera pointed at you and someone could track your movements.

Having a cop with a small camera on his lapel will only record his interactions in a very limited immediate area. It will prove whether you or he threw the first punch. It may discourage both from doing so also!
Exactly.

The only people who might object to police cameras are corrupt cops and criminals. I like to think they are in the minority when it comes to our Canadian population. And I think the poll proves that

I voted no. One more step in our loss of freedom.
loss of freedom only if you're up to no good.

i say "why not" ... everyone these days seem to have a camera phone these days and record incidents happening around us.. No reason why cops can't use them too
