I know of a cop who was shot at a traffic stop, shame on him. All that time off with pay.
So what? It's still one of the most safest jobs. More cabbie end up assaulted a year should we pay them 200K +? More construction workers get killed per year should they get a mil a year for a "danger pay"?

MM, we went through this 'safe jobs' point in a past thread and your point is a lie, but give it a shot, TERB's been quiet lately

This logic boggles the mind.

The OP's story is about one bad cop. Some of you think that the majority of cops are bad now.

If people know about bad cops, they should call the Commissioner's office. I know of a young cop who was selling steroids. He got busted when they wiretapped his cruiser. Now he's a correctional services driver (or was, last time I heard).

Was he the CO that got arrested the other day for smuggling drugs into the jail? They do catch them.

Despite what everybody may think about law enforcemnet....As far as I'm concerned they are the largest and most organized gang on the street.
Mostly it's the attitude. Too many cops develop a god-complex.
They don't deserve to be paid more, they are lazy as fuck, they camp all day to give tickets, drive around the city intimidating people, they should get paid less if you ask me.
What ever their salary is add a min. 25% to ALL officers as they have a ton of "side gigs" going- i.e. tow truck scams, food vendor pay offs etc.
If you think it doesn't happen talk to these guys .
[/B]

FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME.... NO WE DON'T THINK THE MAJORITY ARE BAD.

Stop using such a pitiful argument to defend the indefensible. Leave such leaps to blackrock13division. You're better than that
Really? ....... and that's just in this thread. If we checked some of the other past threads, we could dig up similar or worse post.

Read definition of "majority" and come back again 13 Division.
It started some time back especially with posts from Nuttyboi leading the charge with others who said all cops are crooked, power hungry, gun totting lazy thugs but eventually gets whittled down to most, then many, then maybe finally a few.

Comments in thread about ticket crazy, intimidating, lazy implied 'all'. It's good to see you don't think so, but I'm not aware of you making this claim in the past. Believe me, I'd remember if you actually agreed with anything i posted.

In a living hell
I've known some great guys on the Toronto Police Force, level headed and honest. And also known, although they were just acquaintances, not friends, some real assholes. There are 5,000-plus on the force, simple math tells you there will be some bad eggs who will abuse their power or are corrupt.
One friend of mine, who just recently took early retirement after 30 plus years on the job, told me the worst thing a cop can do is not have a circle of friends outside the force. As he explained to me, he always told newbies on the force not to just socialize with other cops, include people from other walks of life. As he pointed out, most of the time when people deal with a cop it's not a pleasant experience: they're either a victim of a crime or in trouble with the cops, whether it's a minor thing (traffic ticket) to major crimes. So how often are you really happy to interact with the police. So if cops just hang out with cops, they just bitch about dealing with the public which creates an us versus them mentality. That was how he looked at things. The only cops he hung out with was a long-time friend (they went through police college together) and on occasion whoever he was partnered with.
My buddy who just retired never talked much about the job when we hung out, but would be more than willing to be helpful with minor legal advice such as how to handle minor traffic tickets etc. I never heard him bitch about his job; whenever he brought up his job was only to share some funny anecdotes.
My favorite story: he's on patrol in the Regent Park area, stopped to grab a coffee. On his way out of the coffee shop a crack whore type runs up to him yelling "officer help me, I've just been robbed."
"What happened?" he asked.
She pointed at some guy running down the street and replied, "I just gave that guy a blow job and he ran off without paying me."
Years ago I was playing on a slo-pitch team; we had 3 cops on our team. One of them loved to play outfield but had a terrible arm, terrible accuracy. He was a sharp shooter with Emergency Response Unit. He took a lot of ribbing about that. After one game, over beers, one of the other cops had the best line about him, "You'd think a guy who's a master marksman would be able to JUST ONCE hit the cut-off man."

Well one thing I do know: Blackrock isn't a cop.
Cops are lazy, this guy is a post machine.
Maybe they should hire this shut in to write tickets. If he writes tickets as much as he post online the City of Toronto would have a fortune. He's a cop wannabe.

It's not an easy job...on top of the danger they have to master acting so they can lie in court to cover up their own criminal actions...tough gig!

I think every cop should be equipped with a live video/audio recorder that they must wear every day on the job. This should cut down on the corruption somewhat.

And cops better not object. After all (to use one of their favourite lines) if you got nothing to hide, then you got nothing to worry about :D

Old news, but never going to happen. Some people are already unwilling to talk to police and now that they know they are going to be video taped, will be even less likely to talk. Do you think that a women who has just been beaten by her husband will wan to have her interviewed at her home taped? How about dealing with confidential informant, who won't be very confidential any longer. Which way does the camera point, straight up at his chin so as nor to video innocent people on the street, who already don't like the street cameras. Now there is a camera wherever there is a cop. alive video feed to who, where, and how many people are going to be assigned to listen to all these live feeds?

From a logistical point 4000 beat cops with 4000 cameras. Who reviews them and when? At the end of a shift? only when a complaint is laid? Does the cop behind the counter also wear one? Unless the cop is standing still the video wil be almost unwatchable, moving around focusing on everything and nothing at the same side.

Do you know of any Police Services that uses them on any scale let alone on an 'everyone' scale?

You really thought this one out, didn't you? Of course you haven't.

The U.S. Department of Justice has granted $500,000 to the Phoenix Police Department and the Arizona State University College of Public Programs to buy 50 video camera systems that police officers will wear on their uniforms.

> Ring is part of a growing number of police officers across the country wearing body cameras. He's also a member of the only police department in South Hampton Roads using the cameras, although the Suffolk Police Department just bought 20 cameras through a grant.

Ring is one of roughly 90 Chesapeake officers assigned a body cam.

> BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. -- Four Bainbridge Island police officers are now wearing a video camera on their chest.

Commander Sue Shultz says the cameras document encounters with the public and provide evidence

That was all just from the first page I looked at.

All i know is that a female relative of mine was the victim of an attempted rape and the police went above and beyond to help her out. They actually listened to her and guided her by asking her to close her eyes and having her go step by step through the events enabling her to remember the vehicle used and other details about the two men responsible which she otherwise wouldn't have been able to do because she was so traumatized. It helped tremendously with the case. They were able to recommend counselling centers for women who were victims of crime and violence or in this case attempted violence.

I think we should put all the cop haters into a walled city with no cops to bother them. I'm sure it would be a fairly run, safe, civilized and democratic society they build, with equal rights for all and protection for the city's weakest of citizens. Of course it would....

You are as dumb as bricks my friend. I'm contemplating putting you on ignore, you have the intellectual capability of a tse-tse fly

Here you go, pilot projects from all over North-America:

The technology might not be ready yet, but you can bet it will be in the next 10 to 15 years

Yes there are pilot projects but that's not what I asked for.
The important point is that the technology is not there, but maybe 15 years away. Even when it does comes, how do you handle the rest of the problems, like having people talk to you.
Put me ignore, it won't make you any smarter.
