Officer Blackrock will be with you shortly. He is trying to finish his dozen Timmies doughnuts before the shift ends.

It's happening again. Another young woman has gone missing without a trace. The last time this happened we spent $10million searching for her only to find her body 3 years later. Hope this time there is a happy ending.

She most likely was snatched and she was forced to withdraw money from her bank account. I have a terrible feeling she won't be found alive.

I agree.

I have such a bad feeling about this and hope for the best for her but my instinct says: Oh Shit.

But, why her? She's 18 years old and a grade 12 student. When I was 18 I didn't have a pot to pee in. I keep thinking of that Mariam Machevallieh(sp) girl.

If any of us can answer why then we would catch that individual if he/she exists.

Mariam Makhniashvili.

It takes nothing to look it up.

From what I know she withdrew money from a bank downtown during the day.. She'd have more opportunities to cause an alarm if she was being snatched.

So, over-controlled Asian teen breaks away from her family in search of freedom and for a break from the pressure to be (insert cliche tiger-mom pressure here)?

If that's the case, the good news is her parents won't kill her for running away with a boy they don't approve of. Although they may lecture her sternly.

Whew! Looks like this story will have a happy ending after all. Why do girl children cause their parents so much grief?

thought so too... The parents were saying their relationship with her was excellent.. I know there was more to it. I have a feeling she wanted to play rugby and needed to have her consent forms signed but the parents gave her an earful. lol To be honest, I wouldn't think a smart asian kid would play rugby, let along a girl. xD

Let's just hope it wasn't an impatient and impudent girl who just took off in order to get fresh air and a little adventure.

She put her friends & family through agony, mobilized a city and law enforcement for a search and now she's going to say: "Sorry guys, I'm OK. Just took off for a few days without a thought for anyone."

That won't cut it. It would be the height of callous irresponsibility.

Let's see in the next few days what the real story is. There's always an epilogue.

Kids in a typical middle-class Asian (mainly HK and mainland China) family are subject
to pressure to excel in something outside their school curriculum. Usually the
craft to learn could be a sport or a musical instrument. Some are required by
their parents to seek schooling in mathematics more challenging than what
they are taught in schools. For girls piano playing is seemingly considered
to be a vital part of education in Hong Kong. I have a piano teacher friend
who once told me that among his students Chinese parents are the most lavishing
when it comes to the expense on the resources needed for their children's
training. Playing piano could be a lot of fun if the kids actually enjoy
the music. Somehow I am under the
impression that Asian kids generally show little interest in classical music. In fact
Hong Kong almost never ever produced any classical violinist or pianist of international
fame. Korean and Japanese on the other hand have produced a lot of excellent classical
musicians and they are generally not as oppressive in their musical education for kids.

a stern lecture is all she is going to get? yeah some of you people have never dealt with some Chinese parents, she will be wishing for that, not that I am stereotyping or saying that beating your kid is alright.

A couple of years ago, a co-worker of mine disappeared. His disappearance was in the newspapers and everybody was worried. A few weeks later, my co-worker turned up in B.C. He got into a fight with his girlfriend and just left town without telling anybody! What a jerk.
